True. It's not like a shark attack.

Is there security video of this incident? I’m sorry, but I have suspicions about the parents. Was the kid dead before the alligator got it?

“My wife just told me the little boy’s body was intact...He was drowned...”

My guess is one of the gators shot was the culprit. As such it didn’t have a chance to rip the body apart or stuff it in a place under water for later consumption.

Yes. That is how alligators kill their prey.

They may not have known. Gators migrate. And you just can’t put up safety fencing (either to stop people or gator migration) around every body of water in what is basically a multi-thousand acre swamp with some theme parks inserted.

The real issue would seem to be that many Midwesterners don’t “get” Florida. They aren’t used to the fact that dangerous prehistoric critters are a possibility in any murky bit of water, and even non-murky ones.

Clearly it’s heartless of you to take a realistic approach to this. Somehow.

It was not God’s will; it was an accident.

Why would there be alligators in a Disney-made lagoon?

It is sad an tragic, any my heart aches for the parents who lost a beautiful little child. What a horrible way to go for this child - I can just imagine his fear and crying for his mommy as the gator was drowning him.

I don’t get why Gators aren’t shot on sight.

Exactly so and made worse by darkness. I pray it was a fast death. The parents will be haunted for the rest of their lives. God give them comfort. I understand a priest is tending to them.

I would not shed any tears for the godless leftist Disney Corp, if they were sued over this.

I admit I've also had some thoughts along those lines (and feel guilty for thinking that way, and hoping my suspicions are wrong.) I haven't heard anything about any other witnesses to this incident. On the other hand, I did hear the local sheriff say he has no doubt the child was carried off by an alligator. If this body of water is within the Disney compound, were there signs warning about the presence of alligators? Were there any Disney security people in the area? I just don't know enough about the situation at this point to say one way or the other what happened.

In Florida there are gators in anybody large enough to support a gator.

My neighbors found a gator in their pool. They were over 100 yards from then nearest body of water that could support a gator.

Not too long ago the manager of a Miami Subs restaurant on Federal Highway in Pompano Beach found a gator in their kitchen. It was almost 6' long. It came up through a 6" diameter drain.

Ahhh c'mon, alligators are friendly, so are bears! Isn't that what Mister Ranger has been teaching our kids on those educational cartoons all these years? PETA would tell us to form a circle, hand-to-paw, and celebrate diversity!

Well, I guess an autopsy will show water in the lungs if the child drowned.

Years ago, in San Francisco a couple said their son was kidnapped. The local TV news went to their house to interview the couple. They gave a tearful and heartfelt interview pleading for the return of their son. It turns out a day or so later the police found the dead kid in a suitcase in their closet. The child had been murdered by them and was there in the closet when the TV interviewers were there.

Alligators are all over Florida. They're wild. They's not kept in a park or restricted in their movements. They travel between lakes and other bodies of water many times. I've seen them crossing the highway near our home several times. My wife saw a small one in the lake she was swimming in last summer. You can't escape them.

That being said, your comment assumes the Disney people knew there was an alligator in the lake. They probably didn't. More than likely he just crawled in the water from some other location and was looking for food. A two year old boy and his family learned the hard way that nature is sometimes very unforgiving.

My heart and prayers go out to the family. Such an unfortunate tragedy.
