Retired miner [77] who tried to tackle Jo Cox's attacker was also hero of colliery disaster

A 77-year-old former miner was named today as the pensioner who was stabbed as he bravely tried to tackle Jo Cox’s killer.

Bernard Kenny was waiting outside Birstall library in his car, after taking his wife there to return a book, when he saw the MP being attacked and got out of his car to help her.

He was stabbed in the abdomen by the gunman, and remains in hospital being treated for serious injuries, which are described as “non life threatening”.

West Yorkshire's Acting Chief Constable, Dee Collins, praised Mr Kenny's actions today, saying he had "bravely intervened to assist Jo".

Friends said Mr Kenny’s selfless act was typical of his character, as he had risked his life as one of the rescuers involved in a colliery disaster 40 years ago.

Mr Kenny’s next door neighbour Peter Robertshaw, 60, said he was a "great man" who "kept fit and can look after himself."

Well done Bernard Kenny. What a guy! Damn shame he wasn’t packing a piece himself. But even if he had saved her life with one that would still have got him locked up for a long stretch in the UK. No CCW permits there. “When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.” :-(

Here’s the thing....there are fair number of immigrants who’ve come into England over the past decade. Lot of Poles have come in and gotten decent jobs....pay their taxes, and try to fit into the communities. There’s a feeling by some Brits that jobs are being lost and England is less England.

This nutcase guy here? He’s considered somewhat bright and intelligent, but not capable of controlling himself or living a normal life. The gun in this case is a hand-made weapon (apparently he got the book on things like this and crafted a single-shot gun). Because of all the heated conversation with the BREXIT episode....some folks have really gotten peppy and frustrated. I’d put this guy in that category. No prison for him in the end, I’ll predict he goes off to a facility and stays there.

They won’t talk about gun-control....because they already have a five-star program. They won’t talk about putting nuts into a facility because that’s not on the agenda. In some ways, the ‘stay’ crowd on BREXIT are happy because this one single episode will shift two-percent of the votes around and it’ll be a close 50-plus percent on Monday for them.
