If you look at the Sky News board....every major urban area...went “stay in”. Most all of Scotland and North Ireland went ‘stay in’. It’s the rural regions that went to a high rate of leaving.

Yes, exactly.
My take on those rural region is that the UKIP party had/has many more supporters and voters in rural regions than in London; London being typically more ‘cosmopolitan’.
That’s not unique to a main international city such as London. The same type or mix of voters and difference in voting and concerns would apply, say, in Australia - i.e. country (rural) areas, versus a main (more urban) city like Sydney or Melbourne.
