CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Investors who lost millions of dollars in a scam said they were prepared to sue the Ohio Republican Party in an effort to get some of their money back.

Local 12 News learned that a group of investors who said they were lured into fraudulent investments by a once prominent state representative want their money back. Local 12 first broke the story of Pete Beck's fraudulent schemes in November 2012, in a series of exclusive reports. While Beck was sent to prison in 2015, the search for "pay back" is far from over.

Once one of the most powerful Republicans in Ohio, the head of the state ways and means committee, Pete Beck is now inmate number A718572 at Southeastern Correctional Institution. Following Local 12's exclusive stories, the Ohio Attorney General's office convicted Beck and four others in a securities fraud case. Among other things money raised by Beck, according to the Attorney General, helped fund a cult run by Janet Combs. It also helped fuel the Ohio Republican Party.

In an exclusive interview, investor attorney J. Thomas Hodges told Local 12, "We know some of that money went to the Republican Party in the forms of donations to the Ohio House Republican caucus in order to prop Mr. Beck up and make him more prominent in the party and also benefit the party."

They should probably give it back just to save face and as a gesture of goodwill...if it is in fact money that was originally stolen, regardless of whether they are ultimately liable by someone else's actions.

This would an interesting case as far as standing and liability...was this reported scam his only source of income and assets? If not, how could you prove that these particular donations came from the cashflow of the reported scam? Would an award be proportional to his overall assets / income vs. what he got from the scam?

Investors who lost millions of dollars in a scam...

It's nothing compared to politicians who keep running for re-election.

Re-elect me, I can't get a real job.
