Donald J. Trump on Wednesday offered a defiant defense of his campaigns decision to publish an image widely viewed as anti-Semitic saying he regretted deleting it and vigorously reaffirmed his praise of Saddam Hussein, the murderous Iraqi dictator.
In the span of 30 minutes, an often-shouting Mr. Trump breathed new life into a controversy that was sparked on Saturday by his posting of an image on his Twitter account of a six-pointed star next to a picture of Hillary Clinton, with money seeming to rain down in the background. The image was quickly, and broadly, criticized for invoking stereotypes of Jews. Mr. Trump deleted it two hours later, and replaced the star image with a circle.
You shouldnt have taken it down, Mr. Trump recalled telling one of his campaign workers. I said, Too bad, you should have left it up. I would have rather defended it.
Thats just a star, Mr. Trump said repeatedly.
It was a striking display of self-sabotage from a presumptive presidential nominee and underscored the limitations of Mr. Trumps scattershot approach during the Republican primaries not to mention how difficult he often makes it for his campaign team to control him.
The rally in Cincinnati had been promoted by Mr. Trumps team for two days as a chance for him to give a tryout to a potential running mate, former Speaker Newt Gingrich. Periodically, beginning midway through Mr. Trumps speech, the crowd chanted Mr. Gingrichs name, but Mr. Trump did not heed its wishes.
Mr. Trump had not discussed the Twitter message at length until Wednesday night, at his rally in Cincinnati, and his remarks seemed to clash with those of his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, an Orthodox Jew

This is entirely disgusting. Hillary gets away with putting national security at risk, taking money from countries that really are anti-Semitic, and the left attacks Trump for a star on an ad.
This articles is full of BS.
He chose “Frozen” ‘cause Ivanka kinda looks like Elsa... LOL Lots of movies have sticker offers.. His point is spot on...
Why post garbage from the NY Times?
“It was a striking display of self-sabotage from a presumptive presidential nominee and underscored the limitations of Mr. Trumps scattershot approach during the Republican primaries”
Are you a Hillary supporter?
I believe Trump won those primaries. Has Bernie dropped out yet?
Excellent !
NY Slimes dutifully carrying Cankles’ raw sewage.
Back on the big star issue eh?
Amazing.
you are correct.
I just watched his speech. He was far from angry.
Actually, I thought Trump’s speech was informative and quite entertaining. A lot of it was comedy.......i.e. “oh, Hi Hillary!”(mosquito) remark was really a crack up. I like his delivery. He talks to the crowd like they are all his best friends.
Hillary’s cold, scripted cow-mooing delivery with no charisma whatsoever is as noxious as fingernails on a blackboard.
My husband is Jewish with many holocaust victim family members, this is garbage. The democrats are unfamiliar with law enforcement symbols because like Hillary they do not believe in rule of the law.
NYT trots right out and proves Trump is absolutely correct. The news media are sleazy low-life scum.
I’m glad they told me a star was anti-Semitic. I would never have known, no matter how many points it had. I’m going to tell the sheriff he needs to take all the emblems off his cars.
If a SD is any six-sided star, then maybe somebody should tell the police agencies that use six sided stars, like Alameda and Los Angeles CA, Taos NM, Hampton Co. MA, Jackson Co MO Sheriffs and Snowflake, AZ PD - to name just a few.
The blogger who imagined the star to be a Star of David is the real bigot who thinks in stereotypes.

“a striking display of self-sabotage”
NYT concern troll is concerned.
I saw the speech, and can’t figure out about half of what the NYT is writing about. They seem to live in a distorted alternate dimension.
