Understandably buried in the avalanche of news coming out of Dallas is the story of Mark Hughes, an attendee at the rally, who was falsely singled out as the original suspect in the sniper killings because he was seen at the rally openly carrying a weapon.
Original Dallas PD Tweet: https://www.google.com/search?q=mark+hughes+dallas+pd+tweet&espv=2&biw=1600&bih=775&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjbuLLM-eTNAhXMo5QKHVPhAnQQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=5pfDkS9uXyFUSM%3A
One can only imagine the degree of danger that this tweet put Mr. Hughes in, and luckily for him, he was both smart enough to think to immediately turn over his gun and then himself to the authorities and he was lucky enough to encounter police officers who managed to keep their cool in what had to be an unimaginably stressful and tense circumstances for them.
I’m pretty sure that when this went down, Colion Noir was a suspect.
Everyone would be a suspect there. You, me, black or white.
This is my biggest fear in places like grocery stores. If someone were to start shooting in, say, a Walmart I wouldn’t pull my gun. I would just get to cover.
I pull out my gun and no one knows what to think. I would just get shot.
Strategy with a firearm is a subject in and of itself. I’m an open-carry proponent but open carry comes with it’s own issues.
It was his right to walk around with that gun displayed, but I think he was foolish to do so. We see, now what BLM gatherings are prone to do, which is riot. So why make a conspicuous target out of yourself?
A pistol discreetly held in the holster, fine, but this full sized gun here? It would be intimidating to the average person to pass someone carrying that. I know many people here don’t want to hear that and want no limits on carry whatsoever. I disagree in certain circumstances.
As my father told me, you can be right, and you could be dead right.
Does anyone know what gun the sniper was using?
Really stupid to walk around with a exposed weapon in this environment. Dead stupid.
That wasn't a riot. The protest itself was pretty orderly.
Wrong place at the wrong time...
Intimidating? I’d be diving for the bushes!
Until it wasn’t.
I’m still chuckling about an earlier report that referred to it as an “automatic-type rifle”
Wern’t they (BLM) also at the Baltimore rally? You know, they one that suddenly went up in flames? I’m just saying, knowing their history, you take your life into your own hands marching toe to toe with them on the street.
When they were in Oakland, CA. during the Occupy days, the marches would always start off as “peaceful”. Beginning around dusk. By nightfall, or 10pm, the blackhooded Anarchists will have infiltrated, and will have started setting trashcans on fire. Everytime, the original protesters acted as though they were ‘Shocked, shocked, to see rioting and property damage going on here!!”
The reason I wonder is that is usually the first thing the media reports, over and over again.
That seems like the right thing to do.
And you do not get extra credit for doing the right thing.
Aren’t they alway high powered AR 15s? //sarc
It was never a riot.
So you are telling me that a black man was open carrying a semi-automatic rifle, approached a police officer with it and wasn’t shot dead on the spot?
Not saying they’re scouts, but last night wasn’t a riot.
