We’re at the point where any locale where an indian has ever taken a squat is “sacred”.

If you want to have an insight into who those ancients were, go to a reservation. Their descendants are living the same Neolithic lifestyle to this day, not counting all the free stuff you’ve bought them, and of course the Aquanet hairspray.

The ancients did not huff Aquanet.

That was the Escalante Staircase region. It is vast, and a fullsize open pit mine could be dug there without a tourist ever seeing it.

There are quite a few isolated recoverable coal deposits throughout the SW. Power plants were originally scheduled for the Kaparowits Plateau and near the Burnham-crownpoint section of the Navajo reservation years ago but cancelled because of protests.
