Open carry in Cleveland Ohio at the Republican National Convention has been hyped by those that want to disarm the population. A scam petition was created to open carry inside the convention floor. It was run by a progressive to create problems for Second Amendment supporters. It did not last for long or fool many. The Quicken Loans location is a private concern.
Then the head of the Cleveland Police Patrolmans Association published a hysterical rant about how the Constitution need not apply. He wanted the citizenry disarmed. From cnn.com:
We are sending a letter to Gov. Kasich requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something I dont care if its constitutional or not at this point, Stephen Loomis, president of Cleveland Police Patrolmens Association, told CNN. They can fight about it after the RNC or they can lift it after the RNC, but I want him to absolutely outlaw open-carry in Cuyahoga County until this RNC is over.
Governor Kasich showed much more class and understanding of limited government, the separation of powers and Constitutionally protected rights. He said no, he did not have the power to do so.
Senator Sherrod Brown (D) Ohio, thought the Governor could do something! At least when he was talking to the Police Union. From cleveland.com:
CLEVELAND, Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown has joined the call for Gov. John Kasich to suspend Ohios open carry law during the Republican National Convention this week.
I would hope that the governor would listen to the police union and suspend conceal and open carry in Ohio, in Cleveland, during this convention, Brown said in an appearance in Cincinnati,

It does have to be somewhat scary for pigs, since they have to make quick calls if things get nasty.
Even so, perhaps they should simply TRAIN to identify who’s a threat and who is not. For example, if the person with a gun is a woman with hairy armpits, then obviously a threat. Likewise if it’s a guy with a Grateful Dead tea shirt on, then another threat...etc.
Yeah, anyone else concerned when alleged “leaders” say they don’t care about the Constitution? Really? I’d ask him how he feels about dui laws, or rape laws...ask him to tell me just how he decides which laws to support, which ones to disregard.
No but there will be a lot of safe spaces available. Well, that is until ol'slick shows up and then it's open season on interns.
It’s only hostile BECAUSE you’re exercising your Right.
I understand your point, though. I’ve carried open many times. You get looks - some dirty, some curious.
Either way it’s a conversation starter... “What, are you a Cop or something?”
“Nope. Just a Citizen exercising my Right. And you should too.”
Some cops are politicized too, unfortunately. They are a representative slice of society; all sides, all opinions.
However, they SHOULD have more understanding of the laws they are upholding; if not, they shouldn’t be in that job.
I have not seen any stats, so this is pure conjecture, but there were probably more people shot and killed on the south side of Chicago and in Baltimore than in Cleveland during the 4 days of the GOP convention.
Once again, law-abiding gun owners disappoint the media by acting like law-abiding gun owners.
“...since they have to make quick calls...”
Yes, they do... and sometimes it doesn’t work out well for all involved. It’s not an easy job, for sure.
“...anyone else concerned when ...”
Very concerned indeed.
But remember - the Constitution is just words on paper unless all parties agree to be bound by it.
ANY law is like that. And we have folks right now - one whole political party, and parts of the other - that feel it’s OK to disregard it when it becomes .... inconvenient ... to their agenda. And they use all the coercive threats of governmental force to selectively enforce what they want, and impede, block, and ignore what they don’t want.
The 2A was supposed to be the REAL “check and balance”; but we’ve let them get away with trying to strip us of that option for so long they’re no longer worried.
So here we are.
“Yes, they do... and sometimes it doesnt work out well for all involved. Its not an easy job, for sure.”
Yep, thanks. I was kind of joking about it, but being a cop and knowing that white leftists, given a haircut, deodorant, and cowboy boots could be very difficult to distinguish from people that love the country.
It is understandable to me why they’d rather not have to deal with it.
“...white leftists, given a haircut, deodorant, and cowboy boots ...”
Chuckle... nah, you’d still recognize them. There ain’t enough SOAP in the world to get rid of the odor. It always smells like “dumbASS”.
LOL. There would still be ways to smoke them out. Just yell “KARL MARX!!!” and if they respond “WHERE???”, you’ve out them
Great minds think alike, Bob... Haha!
Did they allow open or concealed carry in the Quicken Loan Arena itself?
I’m with you on that point. I generally open carry, and it isn’t unusual here in Utah. The folks at the 7-11 don’t freak. This isn’t Boston.
By hostile, I meant travelling into seedy territory ... wrong side of the tracks.
I don’t open carry in sketchy situations. Instead of being a target, It gives me the drop. It’s the gray man thing.
Would that be *before*, or after they change their pants, which show the obvious 'signs' of their 'discomfort'?

Oh, I agree on the concealed part. I HAVE open carried, as I’ve said, but I actually prefer to keep it concealed.
PA is a good state for firearms. We’re a thumb in the eye of the northeastern anti-Constitution idiots.
I did not believe that there would be any conflicts amongst the Rep convention goers. That meme was being promoted by the scribbler
and babbler slithering snakes of the presstitute cartel.
I did think that there would be more trouble than there was from the
leftist swine out in the streets.
