Donald Trump is a unique threat to American democracy (WaPo Barf Alert)
Washington Compost ^ | July 22, 2016 | WaPo Editorial Board

Posted on 07/23/2016 5:08:50 PM PDT by Pinkbell

DONALD J. TRUMP, until now a Republican problem, this week became a challenge the nation must confront and overcome. The real estate tycoon is uniquely unqualified to serve as president, in experience and temperament. He is mounting a campaign of snarl and sneer, not substance. To the extent he has views, they are wrong in their diagnosis of America’s problems and dangerous in their proposed solutions. Mr. Trump’s politics of denigration and division could strain the bonds that have held a diverse nation together. His contempt for constitutional norms might reveal the nation’s two-century-old experiment in checks and balances to be more fragile than we knew.

Any one of these characteristics would be disqualifying; together, they make Mr. Trump a peril. We recognize that this is not the usual moment to make such a statement. In an ordinary election year, we would acknowledge the Republican nominee, move on to the Democratic convention and spend the following months, like other voters, evaluating the candidates’ performance in debates, on the stump and in position papers. This year we will follow the campaign as always, offering honest views on all the candidates. But we cannot salute the Republican nominee or pretend that we might endorse him this fall. A Trump presidency would be dangerous for the nation and the world.

Why are we so sure? Start with experience. It has been 64 years since a major party nominated anyone for president who did not have electoral experience. That experiment turned out pretty well — but Mr. Trump, to put it mildly, is no Dwight David Eisenhower.

What threatens democratic elections is millions and millions of illegal immigrants who can’t even be asked for identification before they cast illegal votes.

Washington Post editorial board doesn’t want Americans to vote for someone of whom they disapprove.

Why have an election when the Washington Post has determined in advance one candidate is uniquely unqualified to be President and is dangerous?

If liberals had it their way, we wouldn’t have free elections at all.

The irony is in its editorial denunciation of Trump, the Washington Post became everything they deem repellent in Trump.

And they don’t even see it.

“I prefer a simple Gulag.”

Yes, but will there be beatings? I can only imagine such a place would be well served of the public trust if there were beatings.

Politics of denigration and division have been a liberal staple.

Trump is doing nothing of the kind.

I guess they didn’t see the convention the way the rest of us saw it.

Oh, we’d have an election. It would be elections along the lines of the Democrat primary for the general.

More like a Soviet election.

You can vote for one candidate as long as that candidate gets 100% of the vote.

They love it at the Washington Post.

England has the House of Commons, roughly equivalent to the House of Reps. Area representation.

Brexit was a straight-up referendum. Which would *not* have passed in the House.

Which is better?

but Mr. Trump, to put it mildly, is no Dwight David Eisenhower.

Why not?

Everything I read about Eisenhower says he never saw direct combat. He was a logistics officer who excelled at planning, and was assigned to several General staffs throughout his career.

Eisenhower made his career planning wars, not leading the troops on the front lines. The author doesn't think that Trump would be good as a global organizational planner? That IS Trump's specialty, right?

Kim Jong Un always gets 100% of the vote. It’s because he’s so fabulous. Who would vote for anyone else?

The real estate tycoon is uniquely unqualified to serve as president...

Uh...how can one be "uniquely" unqualified for anything? I mean, if you're unqualified, aren't you equally unqualified with everyone else who's unqualified? Isn't it a requirement of an editorial board to be fluent in the English language?

I do think it's amusing for people flogging democracy to be scared shirtless that the candidate they don't like is going to get too many votes. How does that work again?

Ike was a great leader. It mattered not that he was not in the foxhole, his job was to plan and win a WAR. He hired the best staff of Generals, Intelligence and trained the men who won the war. I also submit that DJT would be another Ike but I pray he is not on the “Global organizational planning” team. He made it clear in his speech Thursday that is not his direction. Make America Great does not include the “Globe!”

I like Rakuten.com formerly buy.com.

Competitive pricing, free shipping that’s usually faster than Amazon but not as much product selection as Amazon.

Democracy, One Sheep and Two Wolves deciding what’s for Dinner.

We are a Constitutional Republic.

Representatives are Elected by the People to Govern within the constraints of the United States Constitution. It is specific in limiting the power of those same Elected Representatives.

The Constitution is the foundation of our Republic and it exists to prevent Tyranny by Government fiat.

Unfortunately, the Founders never envisioned the modern Democrat Party, their RINO sycophants, a willfully ignorant Electorate and the Rulers in Black Robes.

Aren’t we supposed to be a representative republic?

(I say supposed to be because nobody is really representing us but Trump and a very select few whose names escape me at the moment...)
