Donald Trump’s campaign sent out an email to surrogates this week titled “URGENT PIVOT” as the campaign seeks to control the damage from Trump’s war of words with the parents of a Muslim U.S. Army captain killed in Iraq.
The memo, obtained by The Hill, asks surrogates on Capitol Hill to coordinate messaging and push back on attacks on Trump.
All — As usual, the media is working against our efforts and our messaging specifically as it relates to the tragic death of Capt. Humayun Khan,” Scott Mason, Trump’s director of congressional affairs, wrote.
“We are asking you to review and use the attached talking points in your daily messaging, including a release and/or statements you can put out in your social media immediately to support Mr. Trump and OUR message, that we must end radical Islamic terror so that soldiers like Capt. Khan, and all Americans, will be safe.”

Interesting memo reproduced in the Hill. The only “pivot” mentioned is to minimize talking about Kahn. It has detailed information on exactly what Trump said and how to respond to it. It shows that Trump said nothing that could be interpreted as offensive except his saying that the mother didn’t speak.

Trump's response to a pre-taped ABC This Week question from George Stephanopoulos referencing criticism from Khizr Khan.In the same press release, Trump inlcuded a transcript of his interview with Stephanopolis.As shown in the full transcript, Mr. Trump doesn't compare his sacrifices to anybody else's, and in fact praises Mr. Khan and wishes him well.
Mr. Trump also released a statement Saturday praising Mr. Khan's son, Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed serving in Iraq:
"Captain Humayun Khan was a hero to our country and we should honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country safe. The real problem here are the radical Islamic terrorists who killed him, and the efforts of these radicals to enter our country to do us further harm. Given the state of the world today, we have to know everything about those looking to enter our country, and given the state of chaos in some of these countries, that is impossible. While I feel deeply for the loss of his son, Mr. Khan who has never met me, has no right to stand in front of millions of people and claim I have never read the Constitution, (which is false) and say many other inaccurate things. If I become President, I will make America safe again.
"Further, Hillary Clinton should be held accountable for her central role in destabilizing the Middle East. She voted to send the United States to war against Iraq, helped lead the disastrous withdrawal of American troops years later that created the vacuum allowing the rise of ISIS, and has never met a regime change she didn't like (which have all been disasters) - not to mention her invasion of Libya and her abandonment of American personnel in Benghazi. I have read that Muslim males of military service age are infiltrated into the armed forces of western countries for the specific purpose of the combat training experience and for the gathering of intelligence needed for the war against the west. Was this Khan one of these operatives? It is also known that his father has been engaged in anti-American activities and is at the present time a Clinton lackey.
Is there some reason Gold Star family members should be more immune from criticism than anyone else? If there is, I can’t think of one.
Manufactured outrage by the Left. For those blaming Trump for this ‘controversy, understand that it wouldn’t have mattered what Trump said. The left was going to create an issue to be outraged over, no matter what. If Trump had backed down, they would have found something else to clutch their pearls over.
The lesson? NEVER apologize to the left if you’re not wrong. If you start now, it will never end. And hit back hard at those who are trying to twist your words. The people, not the media, but the people will respect you for it. Trump understands this. For all of you who are getting weak kneed, toughen up.
Well its time to move on so Trump needs to pick a fight with somebody new. :-)
