It depends on the state. Some states have said the officer can’t ask. Other states require you to tell the officer you’re armed even if he doesn’t ask. Some states have CHP holders in their vehicle data bases while other states don’t tie CHP to vehicle registration.
A good policy if you are carrying is to give over your permit with your license and wait for instructions. It’s best if he knows you’re armed so he isn’t frightened when he sees you are. Don’t do anything without a direct request from the officer and give him more information than he needs (”My registration is in the glove box.”)
If you are not carrying a that day, you’re just another citizen.
I would suggest that when he lights up, you pull over and do those first three things straight away, BUT, don't heel over to one side for your wallet as it may look like you're reaching for a gun.
It has yet to happen to me, but I would put my hands on the wheel as you say, and wait for him to approach and ask for your IDs. I'd say something like, "Before I move, I am a licensed CCW** and will reach for my wallet and show you my documents if OK with you." - or words to that effect. (On hearing that, he may ask you to step out of the car first.) I'm thinking that if he sees any other movement by you, it will only heighten the tension.
Any peace officers here please correct/chime in.
** Even if I'm not carrying. I don't know if it shows up when he runs my plate, but it may also defuse things because he knows (or should) CCW owners have passed BG checks.
Much like the MSM does with Trump; you seem to have not understood my meaning. We are both saying the same thing in slightly different ways.
There is a bit of difference between the two ideas. The English language allows us to be more accurate in our presentation of ideas. I don’t wake up every day and think about how hard it’s going to be for me to not commit any felonies, so as to “keep my good record intact”.
Okay but take my word for it; we are saying the same thing and my point about the MSM not understanding Trump stands just like you not understand me right now.
I can’t fix either one but it is what it is and it isn’t going to change regardless how precise one chooses to be.
I know, we’re on the same page. I was being pedantic. No worries.
