After defeating House Freedom Caucus member Tim Huelskamp last week, establishment Republicans are looking ahead to their next conservative targets.
The goal is to have a House conference that cooperates with leadership. And primaries are the best way for establishment Republicans to eliminate troublemakers.
Now that Huelskamp has been knocked off, the establishment's sights are shifting to Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, another member of the House Freedom Caucus.
A group called Right Way Superpac has spent nearly $130,000 through Aug. 10 on mail and media opposing Gosar and supporting his primary opponent, pastor and city councilman Ray Strauss.
"Has Paul Gosar been in Washington too long?" a radio ad from Right Way asks. It hits Gosar for voting to "fund Obamacare and raise the debt ceiling" and for boycotting the Pope's speech to Congress.
"Ray Strauss will work to protect the Second Amendment and introduce legislation to stop waste, fraud and abuse, secure the border and deport illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds, and allow us — instead of Washington — to control our access to water," the minute-long ad says.
Establishment Republicans also have been looking to bolster their ranks by playing in open-seat primaries against potential House Freedom Caucus members.

The GOPe #nevertrump crowd fall back on the dem tactic of scaring old people, telling them that Trump will take away their SS, medicare, and pensions, along with pushing their wheelchairs over a cliff with them in them. Of course the survivors will only be able to afford living in a cardboard box, and subsiding on stale dry cat food, after Trump burns their houses down and sell their grandchildren into slavery.
Just substitute “hillary”, “obama”, and “democrat” for names above for what actually will happen if hitlery is elected.
Listen to me, this guy, GOSAR is an ass. He screwed my County and allowed a Corporation to write legislation that took land and water from my County. I am the County Supervisor. I have worked with him, and now we don’t even talk because he is the worst kind of politician. He is arrogant, a know it all, and mean. Now, he is going around threatening me and others because we dared go against him. I am supporting his challenger, Pastor Ray Strauss, the finest man I have ever known who will be a solid conservative and be able to work with others. Congressman Paul Gosar is not that guy. Just because you yell and scream and call people names doesn’t mean you are an effective Congressman. I am embarrassed to be in his District.
The only Republican in Congress not in the Freedom Caucus is Martha McSally and she won by 167 vores. CD2 leans Republican but not Conservative. Gabby Giffords and her successor won over conservative Republicans.

Please read my text above. This guy Gosar is bad news. He is Conservative, but he is a terrible Congressman and he needs to go. I hope you trust me when I tell you this.
Paul Gosar needs to go. I am asking you to trust me. Yes, he is a Conservative. This district is the most Conservative District in Arizona. Any Congressman will vote Conservatively. I promise you that. Paul Gosar is not a good Congressman. Even other members of the Freedom Caucus don’t like him. I have worked with him, and now we don’t speak because he is an arrogant man who thinks he knows everything and if you disagree you must be destroyed. He screwed my County in a way that will haunt us for years to come. And all he had to do was admit he made a mistake. But he’s not that kind of guy and you do not want leaders like that, believe me.
Ray Strauss is the best man I have ever met and I pray every day and night he beats Paul Gosar.
