I support the police and understand they put their lives on the line, but the shoot first ask who’s there second mentality needs to stop. We had rules of engagement in Iraq. Some might not have liked it, but volunteering to put yourself in harms way is not carte blanche to keep a twitchy finger resting on the trigger.
Agreed. As I noted before, I think the homeowner bears some responsibility here due to his foolish actions.
He was - of course - no threat to the police at all. But was he a perceived threat great enough to get him shot? Hard to say at this point, but I'd say probably not. He certainly didn't shoot at the cops, and he probably wasn't pointing in their direction either.
If I were on a wrongful-shooting jury, I give the guy a decent amount of money. But I would still find him partially at fault.
