Donald Trump On Colin Kaepernick: "Maybe He Should Find A Country That Works Better For Him"
DeadSpin ^

Posted on 08/29/2016 10:23:26 PM PDT by TigerClaws

What you are about to hear represents an utterly monumental lack of self-awareness on Donald Trump’s part—astonishing, I know.

Trump appeared on Dori Monson’s show on KIRO radio in Seattle this afternoon, and was asked about 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s decision not to stand for the National Anthem as a protest against racial oppression, police brutality, and all-around inequality in the United States. His answer:

“Well I have followed [the Kaepernick story], and I think it’s personally not a good thing. I think it’s a terrible thing. And you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try, it won’t happen.”

Trump’s entire campaign is based around the idea that America is stumbling, or broken, or fundamentally subpar in some way—“Make America great again” and all that. His response to someone else who believes America needs to fix things is to tell him to look for another country. Incredible.

I’m reminded that “if you don’t like it, get out” was a common rejoinder to political protests of the Bush era—as if America were perfect, and supporting it means never acknowledging its faults, and if you want to call attention to its shortcomings and work to make it better, you must not truly love it. That refrain seemed to have thankfully disappeared from top-level political discourse. God bless Donald Trump for never failing to disappoint with the takes.

You are right. The 49ers say that they can’t make him stand, but they make other rules in regards to his behavior while he wears the uniform. Because he wears a NFL uniform, he represents the league.

Me thinks the NFL and the 49ers are going to take a big financial hit because of this, so much that the big pay days are done. The NFL killed the goose that laid the golden eggs.

I bet his contract has an escape clause for the club.....based on behavior deemed detrimental to the club or the league

“Panthers Coach Ron Rivera said the team was startled by the flyover.”

Must be why Cam sucked so badly against the Pats Friday night.

Who wrote this piece of garbage?

“Make America Great Again” shows you have tremendous PRIDE in your country, you see what’s not working and want to make it right.

The Kaepernick jerk showed complete DISREGARD for his country, besides knowingly perpetrating BLM lies.

EPIC FAIL in the author’s argument.

As I understand, he actually said “I” but some technical audio problem caused it to me left out.

Personally I think The Donald needs to stay clear of current events and let his minions make those comments.

Secondly BOYCOTT THE NFL!

Babs Streisand likes younger men, and has promised to leave if El Trumpo wins.. Maybe the two can elope to France together after Nov 8. Make it a threesome with the hideous pig Whoopi.

They and their fans think only in money.

It has nothing at all to do with money. This guy whatever his name is, is not thinking money (it’s about the flag)

The flag is not about money.

The 49ers and the NFL are confused because they have lost sight of what the flag is

The pundits are saying things like, “there are military in the stands it’s insulting to them”

I’m a combat vet. The flag means as much to any other American as it does to me. The flag is America’s flag, it is not the military’s flag.

The 49ers and the NFL cannot make him stand for the anthem. That’s not what this is about either. They say it is but they are wrong. They don’t understand any more than the ignorant pundits I’ve heard

The pro football association and this team have agreed with this player. He was not out at his kid’s soccer game in the stands doing this, and that is they are treating it, it’s how this is coming across from the ignorant media.

But he did it representing pro football whether they say so or not

Hillary thought Benghazi would go away by saying, with the media saying “four dead Americans”. It will never go away because those people were in country doing the work of our government. They were killed because of that. It’s Hillarys because there were state department people killed. This country is bigger than she is because we have history and tradition that she can only try to erase

The flag is bigger than money, the NFL, it’s bigger than our military, bigger than the media If the NFL doesn’t face up to that this will never go away

He was in uniform publicly disrespecting the flag

That’s not about money

I wrote, “They and their fans think only in money.”

That is NOT what I meant. And I am an NFL fan until now going back generation or two in my family

I meant to say that I’m hearing a lot about money on this

The NFL has become a lot about money. But they have a tradition. They’re going to be visiting that a lot here off camera in the next days

And when you are on another world.

Let BLM fill the football stadium.

The NFL can go to hell.

Pay-wise, I don’t think they can really afford to dump him.

I think he signed a very team-friendly contract - not a lot of guaranteed money after the signing bonus. We'll see...

Trump nails it again!

Nailed it with a big hammer too....I noticed some other twit who was going to "sit it out in protests" decided he will now stand for the Anthem......

Every SF fan should go to the game, cheer the flag and then walk out. Buy nothing and leave.

The best thing the fortininners can do is have him ride the bench all season. I predict the ninners will have a 7 and 9 record this year or worse.

“IQ of a slug.”

It the team does not have an escape clause, then they are as dumb as he is.
