Why does The Washington Establishment hate Donald Trump? It is not because of his positions on immigration or trade. Pat Buchanan and Ross Perot advocated similar stands in 1992, and they did not generate the obsessive hatred being displayed in 2016.
Trump has declared war on The Establishment itself. In his June 16, 2015 Presidential announcement he asserted:
So Ive watched the politicians. Ive dealt with them all my life…. They will never make America great again. They dont even have a chance. Theyre controlled fully by the lobbyists, by the donors, and by the special interests…. Its destroying our country. We have to stop them, and it has to stop now.
So in a nutshell, The Washington Establishment has a visceral hatred for Donald Trump, because he promises to put their system out of business.
The Washington Establishment sees Trump as serious about them being the primary impediment to making America great again. He sees The Establishment as lining their pockets, and their friends pockets as beneficiaries of the status quo. As long as nothing changes, The Establishment will have their mansions, limousines, VIP tables and ego trips.
There is much at stake.
Think of Washington, DC as a mass of cookie jars, each containing delicious treats. There are those who control the cookie jars, those who want the cookie jars, and those who can get the cookie jars. Officially, these treats are distributed based on legislative mandates, open competition, and documented needs.
In fact, the treats are almost always handed out to friends, and friends of friends. Friends can be purchased. Friends help friends get reelected, and gain power, and get treats. It is Washington, DCs golden rule those with the gold rule.
Welcome to crony capitalism. Someone knowing someone who can hand out favors has been around since the first tribes shared the first harvest. The term lobbyist came from favor seekers hanging out in the lobby of Washington, DCs Willard Hotel during the Grant Administration in the 1870s.
In 1905, George Washington Plunkett, a ward boss in the Tammany Hall political machine, coined what could be the motto of Washington, DC: What is the Constitution among friends?
Today, things have gotten way out of hand. Spending for Washington lobbyists has tripled since 1998 to over $3.22 billion a year. Favor seekers spend $24 million on lobbyists each day Congress is in session.
Campaign fundraising is another dimension of how The Establishment stays in power. Over $750 million has been raised for House races and $520 million for Senate races this election cycle. Leaders of Political Action Committees (PACs), and individual bundlers who raise funds, dominate this ultimate game of pay for play.
Those brokering power become gatekeepers for funding and favors throughout the Federal Government. This power comes from a truism overlooked by everyone in the media: all discretionary federal money is earmarked. The popular myth is that earmarks vanished once the Republicans banned them when they returned to power in 2011.
In fact, they only banned legislative earmarks, and there are still ways to work around that system. The President, and his appointees, earmark funds as standard operating procedure. Even career bureaucrats play favorites.
Favorites can be based on institutional, Administration and ideological biases. Favoritism can also go to the highest bidder. This is federal money flowing out the door as grants, programs, contracts, buildings, leases and employment.
Other treats to be dispensed include regulatory relief, tax waivers and subsidies. Favoritism is rarely purchased with money directly changing hands; that kind of corruption occurs more in state and local government. Washington level corruption is true quid pro quo.
The Washington Establishment swaps favors more insidiously. How many times does a military officer get a major position with a defense contractor years after he favored them with a multi-million dollar contract? A Reagan aide granted a building height waiver near the White House and quadrupled his salary when hired by the developer.
Grant and contract officers obtain slots at prestigious colleges and prep schools for their children for making the right choices or being a little lax on oversight.
Bush era National Park officials refused to prosecute the destruction of park land in exchange for Redskins tickets. Obama era Fish & Wildlife Service officials give wind turbine companies 5- and 30- year exemptions from endangered species and eagle protection, so they can slaughter eagles, hawks, falcons, other birds and bats by the hundreds of thousands year after year while commoners get fined or jailed merely for possessing a bald eagle feather.
Hillary Clinton gets exonerated from a host of transgressions, in exchange for who knows what.
Everyone has their price, save for true public servants.
Trump promises to smash the cookie jars and end the reign of The Establishment.
Normal Americans are rallying around Trump. They are enraged at the lies and duplicity of those in power. Many see a reason to vote for the first time since Reagan. They want November 8, 2016 to be Americas Bastille Day, marking the end of Washington, DCs arrogant and unaccountable ruling class.
Billions of dollars are at stake. Perks, prestige and power are at stake. The future of representative government is at stake. Is it any wonder that The Establishment is doing everything and anything to stop Trump?
he will have to win, have the support of the people, then be able to negotiate the best possible deal with the establishment.
I think we have to accept that fact. He will not “blow up” the system, but he will work to tame the system.
“Blowing up” the system is not his plan. Nor should it be ours....in the sense of destroying the federal government.
We need to get the federal government back in her rightful place: at the feet of the people, not overpowering them.
The founders started a decent system—but it was allowed to fester into a big, growing, sore. Especially the last 75 years.
Our spiritual walk and subsequent morality that followed needs to be addressed first and foremost.
In the first 150 years of this nation, we had overreach at the federal level on some occasions. The difference was this: it was usually short-lived for an emergency or tamped down by the states.
Wilson’s seed planting and FDR’s full bloom of the expansion of DC’s power has seen it go (almost) unabated since the mid 20th century. Not coincidentally, our spiritual recognition of God as our Creator has also declined.
We need to recognize the greatness of Man is only insofar as he can recognize he is the reflection of an even greater God. And we bow to Him. Every knee will at some point, anyway. Better to do it now and acknowledge our weakness. Perhaps he will recognize our position and help us so that we do not perish.
It is all about the Cheap Labor Express.
What they call immigration isn’t immigration.
It’s about dissolving US sovereignty and the citizens hold on their government.
The globalists are not going to allow the citizens to keep their country.
They were able to nominate an amnesty candidate in every election since the last amnesty, effectively blocking the citizens from stopping the illegal alien inundation.
They are not about to let us reverse 30 years of bipartisan policy of non-enforcement of immigration laws.
They will continue the drip, drip, drip of a few Republican appointees every week. There have been over 100 so far. Henry Kissinger is the latest.
Look for Yeb! and W. to endorse the wicked witch of Chappaqua if shes losing badly.
Pat Buchanan was hated also. They are similar in that neither jumped at the chance to go to war in the Mid East or accept unbalanced trade agreements. The Republicans and Democrats combined to make sure Pat would not appear on the debate stage with them. Pat would have kept America great.

With all respect to Mr. Buchanan—the establishment probably never saw him as a real threat to them. Not in the way Trump is a threat.
Of course.
She’s their sister-in-law.
Don’t hear much about Herman Cane anymore?
Trump in making Americans see that their institutions are in large part dependent upon the spiritual strength & mettle of the Founders; that the Constitution intends--clearly intends that the Government created puts Americans First; is intended to serve Americans first--and in many cases only;--helps instill not only constructive pride, but moral responsibility upon the part of the citizenry.
It is not a call to hostility to any other people. We wish all well; we come in friendship to visit others and to trade with others. But our particular Government has no reason to exist but to serve America & the Americans.
Trump is stirring a long dormant spirit. Even as the model of a confident, proud but reverent & friendly people inspired much of the world in the 18th Century; a Trump revival will be a Blessing to much of the earth. Foreign patriotic revival events like Brexit will become more common.
The big lie that has insulted all peoples by pretending that they were interchangeable--thus denying the unique achievements of each--will recede in influence, with very great benefits indeed.
Dont hear much about Herman Cane anymore?....BTW, did YeB! die or sumpn’g?
They fear losing control of the base more than they fear losing yet another election to a Democrat.
The irony being...that the man who may free America from the hands of those who worship only money and power, is himself a billionaire. Go figure.
Illustrates the difference between “Money is the root of all evil” and “Love of money is the root of all evil”.
“Trump the Establishment” was a tagline I made up a few months back. You’re welcome, Mr. Faulkner!
