What’s Behind the French Burkini Ban

“France does not believe in multiculturalism,” said Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at the Center for International Studies at The Heritage Foundation.

The French Revolution introduced a strong anti-religious animus that over time, he said, has kept religion from the public space. This trend is reflected in France’s concept of laïcité, which has been used to defend bans such as those targeting the burkini.

According to The Economist, laïcité is “a strict form of secularism enshrined by law in 1905 after a struggle against authoritarian Catholicism,” meant to keep “religion out of public life.”

Well, they shouldn't. Unlike America, Australia, and other countries that evolved from European colonies being "French" is more than a social compact. There's a thousand of years of history, culture, language, religion, and sheer genetics involved. I can no more become "French" than I can become an African pygmy. The further the one-worlders push the envelope the harsher the snap back will be.

France's opposition to multiculturalism means that a Frenchman is a Frenchman is a Frenchman. Doesn't matter if they are an Algerian Muslim Frenchman or a white Christian whose ancestors can be traced to France for centuries. The French census doesn't even count for ethnicity.

This is a problem with travel. Many countries, including ours, have very lenient policies for granting travel visas to French citizens. If the French don't categorize ethnicity, it could potentially become difficult for other countries with liberal travel arrangements to keep out these so-called "French" terrorists.
