Angela Corey, Zimmerman Prosecutor, Loses Primary, 26% to 64%

When both the NRA and the local president of the NAACP want you out of office, you are in trouble.  Angela Corey found herself in that position after ham-handling a number of cases that she chose to prosecute, including George Zimmerman in the Trevon Martin self defense case. From usatoday.com:

Melissa Nelson, a corporate lawyer and former prosecutor, claimed 64% of the vote over Corey’s 26% in the fourth circuit, which oversees Jacksonville, Fla. Nelson will face Kenny Leigh, a write-in candidate who runs a men’s only law firm, in the general election. (Fun fact: no write-in candidate has ever been elected to a state attorney position in Florida, the Florida Times-Union has reported.)

USA today gets the case exactly wrong, still sticking to the discredited notion that racism was a major feature of the case.

To her biggest critics, Corey is the prosecutor who failed to convince a jury to convict Zimmerman of second-degree murder for fatally shooting Martin, a black 17-year-old. Civil rights leaders have told USA TODAY that if Martin had been white, Zimmerman would have been arrested the night of the shooting.

This from IamGMJohnson on twitter:

Angela Corey lost her primary. Yall know the one who play “prosecuted” George Zimmerman

Anyone who actually studied the trial knows that Corey bent, very likely broke, the rules as far as she could get away with in trying to convict George Zimmerman.  The idea that she “play prosecuted” him is a leftwing conspiracy fantasy.

There was incredible racism in the coverage of the case, but it was racism directed

George Zimmerman was the biggest victim of racism in this case. He was too "white" and he had a "jewish" sounding name.

The left isn’t too merciful to its own, is it. Where is your “liberalism” when it comes to exercising it at home, hmm?

It’s “Trayvon,” not “Trevon.”

And a great write-in candidate he is:

Jacksonville.com also reports that Leigh has recently filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, asking for protection from creditors and says the office owes the Internal Revenue Service $177,000 in payroll taxes from the fourth quarter of 2015.

Maybe. . .but given relatively recent IRS activities I will need more proof than IRS accusations.

I would say he “wasn’t black enough. “

He is one eighth black.
Mixing the races still infuriates socialists.

I watched the trial. The defense could have just sat there and made them prove their case. But they totally dismantled the prosecution case. The prosecution acted like defense lawyers. They had no facts. It was very odd watching it.

One thing not being reported anywhere is that Soros played a roll in electing Nelson. Nelson had the backing of the entire GOPe and lib lawyer establishment too.

I did not vote for Corey because of the Zimmerman fiasco. In that fiasco, along with the over charging complaint, there was a withholding of evidence from the defense. I voted for White, not Nelson, who garnered about 10% of the vote. Nelson was more than amply funded over Corey the incumbent with some of those funds coming from a soros supported group.

Happy days are not here again in Jax except that hack who had the job before Corey, Shornstein, did not run. Jax got the next worse thing.

It’s kind of funny how in the end nobody liked Angela Corey. I’m not happy the GOPe lady won but good riddence to Corey.

Yes, payback is tough but sometimes one has to go with the consequences. Like I said, I voted for White. I know him, seems like a sensible guy and he had the fortitude to take on Corey while working for her.

I am confused. Are these 3 repubs? Will the primary winner be running against a dem to replace Pam Bondi?

Corey on the left, write in in the center, Melissa Nelson (winner) on right.

It is a state attorney post for Northern Florida.

I do not think there is any opposition from a Democrat, so the winner in the Primary wins. The write-in candidate has officially dropped out.

Corey might have thought she would have the benefit of the DNC’s ballot box hacking tools for her services rendered in the fight for socialism. However, this close to the general election it might have been seen as too risky. Saving it for the important one. Another factor is Corey’s failure to secure a guilty verdict against Zimmerman. No reward for losing, Comrade.

I understand the confusion, this was for the county prosecutor in Jacksonville area...not the state attorney general.

All three were republicans running in a primary election to face a write in candidate because the dems did not have the nerve to run a candidate here, rather, they find some squish to run as the GOP “moderate”.
