Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative activist, lawyer and author who is credited with almost single-handedly stopping the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s and who helped move the Republican Party toward the right on family and religious issues, died Monday at her home in St. Louis. She was 92.

I met Phyllis for the first time in the mid-2000s, maybe a little earlier, when her team invited me to speak at several Eagle Forum events in St. Louis. We didn’t agree on a lot of cultural issues-—I’m a rock and roller after all-—but she listened to my arguments and we agreed to disagree on some things. However, in her efforts to promote homeschooling we were arm in arm.
When Dave Dougherty and I began to write “A Patriot’s History of the Modern World,” I noticed we had slighted Phyllis in “A Patriot’s History of the United States” first released in 2004. (Honestly, I can’t remember if her material was in there and cut by the editors or if we just missed it). But in “Modern World,” Dave and I devoted a whole 3-page section to her. And when I get a chance to revise “Patriot’s History of the United States” again, we will correct the record there, regardless of what else we have to remove for space limitations.
That photo shows her as I remember her best...
she was very pretty...and dressed elegantly with her hair nicely arranged with a sweet genuine smile...she was every inch a Christian lady...
I last saw her at an Eagle forum meeting in Nashville just a few years ago...her voice was still strong..
she came and sat next to me and talked to me and I felt honored that she remembered me ...
as far as I know she never got too important in her own mind to mix with the “little people”...she was always kind...
I think Trump will try to go to her funeral...
She did so much for our country, her chosen president should be there...
Thank you. I first heard Phyllis in the late 80’s. And been hooked on Eagle Forum and politics ever since. I’ve been a semi history buff from my teens.
Phyllis and Rand are my two favorites.
“Disobedience is the foundation of Liberty”- Henry David Thoreau
The truth is not for all men but only for those who seek it. Ayn Rand
“Evil succeeds when good men do nothing” - Edmund Burke
If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.-Churchill
I agree with that if it’s possible not to create a political circus of such a sad event.

Rest in Peace sweet Lady.
RIP dear lady. You made this world a better place. Not too many people can lay claim to this.
God Bless her.
She understood the Constitution meant what it said, and even in her last months rallied enthusiastically to the Trump campaign; one to which both you and I are committed.
Above all, she never let herself be intimidated by a biased mass media or the quacks and poseurs in an Academic establishment bent on suppressing what once was known as "Academic Freedom."
Those of us who vividly remember Phyllis' firm commitment to the Barry Goldwater campaign in 1964--the one that really launched Reagan as a Presidential candidate, but ended badly at the time--will do our best to honor her memory as we work to make sure her choice in 2016 is victorious.
God Bless her loved ones with the comfort of knowing what a true Blessing she was to America. God Speed our ongoing efforts in a common cause--the restoration of the America she loved so truly!
Thank you for your life and your work and your example dear lady.
Oh my.
A huge loss!
Thank you for making this post.
I became aware of her in the 1980’s during the Reagan Revolution.
The Eagle Forum was an invaluable resource for stating up to date for liberty’s sake.
I see Phyllis Schlafly as a female counterpart to Ronald Reagan.
I hope Phyllis, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and William Buckley all are share heavenly company in the hereafter.
We’ll miss them even more in the days ahead.
God rest this good woman, one of the finest we ever had; a true crusader whom the wicked MSM never defeated. May she break immediate bread with her Lord in eternity.
Always sad to see one of the last few decent people go. Hopefully, she was simply called to heaven by the LORD, and not the target of a vituperative Leftist/Cruzlim.
The Leftists have succeeded in destroying the family for most Americans, but Schlafly has been a tremendous help to those of us who worship the LORD, and not the government. Let’s work to make sure her values are upheld by a majority, not a niche; through Donald Trump, this can happen.
the lord be with you
When I was in high school, she was often in the news, as she was fighting against the equal rights amendment. Of course, the media left the impression that she was a kook, just like they painted Goldwater as a kookie war-mongering extremist.
Years later, I read her book, A CHOICE NOT AN ECHO, started reading more of her books, and read her articles posted on the Eagle Forum. Leading up to the 2008 election, she was speaking at a conference in St. Louis along with Andrew Brietbart and Peter Kinder and others, so I went.
She talked about many things, and I was so impressed with her strong voice, and intelligent presentation. She worked evenings (war time construction)the graveyard shift, got off work, and went to college, then went home to sleep.
She pointed out that government, feminists, and the equal rights amendment were not needed for women to achieve. She ran the campaign against the equal rights amendment out of her home. Amazing what a difference a determined individual can do.
I watched the interview with her on CSpan discussing her many books, and opinions. I developed a great respect for her over the years. I hate to hear that she is no longer with us.
Prayers up for her family and friends.
The idiots LIBTARDS on twitter are celebrating her death.
Yes, she proved with hard work any one could succeed. We will not see another like her in our life time. And she didn’t have to lie, steal or cheat to achieve that greatness.
The era of such greats as Phyllis, Reagan, Thatcher, Churchill are gone.
