Camping in the end zone: How Seattle's homeless crisis is spilling onto playfields
KIRO7 ^ | 9-30-16 | Gary Horcher

Coaches say if a proposed Seattle homeless ordinance passes, it would make their current problem far worse.

"We would be at risk of losing all of this," said Whitney. "If there were wide open rules, I could show up and there could be thirty tents out here. What do you do with twenty-eight little eight and nine-year-old kids who just want to play sports?"

According to the proposal, only encampments that pose "an imminent and likely public health or safety harm" could be considered a hazard and cleared within 48 hours. Even in those cases, campers in city parks would -- under the proposal, be given 48 hours’ notice to leave, but a multi-step process to find alternative camp sites could take days longer.

All of the big political questions today seem to break along those lines:

Are drug using scum are more important than your kids?
Are illegal aliens more important than American citizens?
Are homosexuals more important than heterosexuals?
Are terrorists more important than everyone else?

Democrats root for the bad guys. Every time.

Impossible, didn’t they raise the minimum wage? Must not be high enough.

With each passing year I dislike winter here in NJ a little more, but it serves a purpose; if I was to become homeless I’d certainly head to a place with little or no snow...

Same locale, same feeling on snow. I’m heading south if that happens

I live in the State of Washington. I own my own home, own a vehicle that is paid for, and by Christmas this year I will be homeless.

Why?

Because the State of Washington taxes heavily to pay for its socialism, that’s why. My social security can not pay the property taxes on my house. So the county will be auctioning it this coming December.

Not everyone who is homeless have been drug users. I know I haven’t, and neither am I scum.

This is a crisis because Seattle hands out every conceivable amenity to the “homeless.” They flock there in droves because they get enough goodies to survive while they work to feed their addictions. The answer is to stop feeding, housing and clothing them. No free medical. Arrest them for vagrancy. Hassle them until they either give up their lifestyle or spread themselves out equally like pigeons in a park full of pigeon feeders.

Incidentally, they are misnamed. Homelessness is the result of a non-functional lifestyle. You can’t use every dollar you get and every minute you have to buy and use drugs and expect to own a home. They should be called something less sympathetic. Addicts, winos, thieves, etc. The term homeless paints a glossy color over the reality of these people.

Washington state in the mid 60’s was a wonderful place. What happened?

All the hard working piney’s, those people who lived tthrough the great depression, WWII, etc... raised their families and passed away. And they dutifully voted democrat because FDR saw them through the hard times, gave them hardworking jobs with the CCC and the New Deal, building dams, cutting roads, war industry boomed, logging was king,
, the natural resourses on land and sea were being harvested and life was good.

And they kept voting democrat...

And the kept on voting democrat...

And then things got real...

Welcome to Obamanation...

Lots of people are on the verge of being homeless or are homeless due to a crappy economy, lack of decent paying jobs, democratic polices killing regulations and job growth....

Drugs have nothing to do with that...

One of my sons recently wound up homeless when he lost his job to illegals that were hired to replace him...

I had to rescue him...

Well, football is an evil sport played by violent members of the male gender. They're all homophobic to boot. And there is a winner and a loser for every game, too!!

Pardon me now while I cuddle up in my safe space for a while.....

"Not everyone who is homeless have been drug users. I know I haven’t, and neither am I scum."

I'm glad you brought this up and I feel for you. Under Obama it is the middle class who are the victims as they are being wiped out. They make a significant portion of the new homeless - people who worked hard and played by the rules all their life. One of today's most under reported stories is the epidemic of suicides among white, middle age formerly middle class people who have been destroyed by Obama.

Mentally Ill should be included. When the mental facilities were emptied back in the 70’s I believe. They went to the streets in some cases.

This can’t be true. When a DemocRAT is president, there are no homeless people.

If the county is auctioning it off, in theory she gets nothing because it has been repossessed, taken, for taxes, zip, zero, nada. Which is why there is more to it than meets the eye, perhaps.

I have been preaching the doctrine of taxes taking your home, after it is paid for, since I paid for mine. One is now suddenly responsible for all the dough that used to go into your escrow account, like principle, interest, insurance, taxes, etc. The escrow company balanced the books so to speak and the owner made one monthly payment.

Once paid off, it falls on the taxpayer to pick up the ball and run with it. Unless you paid cash for your home, and how many do you know who can afford to do so? It is easy to be overwhelmed with the volume of bills for a paid for house. Especially if you have a large house in a high tax state and you are semi or fully retired. It all comes out of petty cash, at a time when petty cash is at a premium.
