Pennsylvania Driver’s Licenses Won’t Be Enough to Board a Plane in 2018

Beginning in January, Pennsylvania residents will no longer be to use their driver’s licenses to enter federal buildings, and one year later, they won’t be able to use their licenses to board a commercial airplane, the Department of Homeland Security wrote in a letter to the Transportation Department, which was released on Thursday. […]

That’s because Pennsylvania — and five other states — failed to comply with the requirements of the REAL ID Act of 2005, a law that called for improved security measures in the wake of 9/11 which would make IDs counterfeit-proof and would store photos and other information in a national database that federal officials would be able to access.

Although some changes have been made to meet federal standards, the state passed a law in 2011 — the REAL ID Nonparticipation Act — which prohibits state compliance with the other provisions of the federal ID law, the [Pittsburgh] Post-Gazette reported. …

Perhaps a utility bill or a student i.d. would suffice? (Good enough for elections.)

Don’t worry about voting, though.

You don’t need any form of ID for that.

Racist! They are suppressing minorities from being able to fly or enter federal buildings, since obviously they have no ID of any kind...

I don’t understand why this has to happen, why certain states licenses are not allowed for federal purposes. And why it’s important.

A number of states give drivers licenses to illegal aliens and legal immigrants now. So a state ID is no longer, if it ever was, any sort of proof of citizenship.

This law evolved out of 9/11. I don’t know about the ID of Mohammad Atta and his boys, but I assume that they, as all foreign visitors, used their foreign issued passports as ID. So if the goal is to have positive ID of people, we still have to depend on how other countries deal with passports, relating to foreign students and tourists.

So, bottom line, for no good reason, Pennsylvania residents will need to get a US passport to get on a plane?? Is this really helping all of our security to force them to do this????

Not sure about the rest of the rebel states, but Missouri indeed requires birth certificate, SSN and current utility address ( for normal citizens) and naturalization records for immigrants, so indeed we do meet the strictest ID requirements, the rub is, however, that MO will not copy and forward these documents to the fedgov as part of REAL ID.

The fedgov already gets tax records, employment details, investment and banking data so it is not hard to realize the fedgov is databasing all this information for something- not sure what....

Since I no longer fly, I suppose it is a moot issue- however, a MO DL will not get you onto a federal installation- so visitors to such places may be in for a surprise unless they have a passport or some other “good” gov id form.

Maybe Trump will undo this charade.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security rejected requests from Oklahoma, Kentucky, Maine, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

So, if one is called for Federal jury duty in one of the naughty states (I know MO is one), does that mean one can’t serve?

or what if you get a subpoena to go to federal court in one of those states???

And does all of this bureaucratic running around trying to comply with this, really enhance any of our security????

Dilbert, you don’t get it? I live in one of the States whose Legislature stood up to the Feds and said that we were responsible for our own drivers’ licenses. The Obama folks found that unacceptable and immediately started pressuring us in every way possible.

The purpose, of course, like everything out of this corrupt regime, is to make it easier for terrorists and illegal aliens to blend in with society. How? . . . by passing out licenses like Halloween candy and then claiming that they are proof sufficient for voting, flying, getting benefits intended for citizens or anything else that illegal aliens find it difficult to do now. Of course, it is difficult FOR A REASON! But the Feds don’t want that and they certainly don’t want States to have even a sliver of autonomy left.

Of course not, but that wasn't the intent anyway. Peon control is.

Five states do not want to confirm identity. Too bad for them and their travels. They’ve had long enough to get ID up to a basic minimum standard. Next, lets use that ID for voting!

I'm getting a little confused in this discussion.

There are three sets of states:

1) State which has strict criteria for Drivers License and does not issue these to non-citizens - assume that Missouri as cited above is one of these.

2) State which issues Drivers License to both citizens and non-citizens and which includes security logos on the these as specified for Federal uses.

3) State which issues Drivers License to both citizens and non-citizens but does not include security logos -- Pennsylvania and 4 other states. These are not going to be accepted by FEDGOV as of 2018.

So... what set of sets need to be corrected -- the 3rd one (without security logos) or both the 3rd and 2nd one -- which must stop enabling illegal immigration!

Real id was bush ii. 2005.

Was against it then and fought against it then. Pubbers passed it.
