2 Investigators: Chicago Voters Cast Ballots From Beyond The Grave
CBS Chicago ^ | 10/27/2016 | Pam Zekman

Susie Sallee was buried in 1998. Yet records show she voted in Chicago 12 years later. Victor Crosswell died in 1994, but records show he’s voted six times since then. And then there’s Floyd Stevens. Records show he’s voted 11 times since his death in 1993.

“It’s crazy,” Sharon Stevens Anderson, Stevens’ daughter, tells CBS 2’s Pam Zekman. “I don’t see how people can be able to do something like that and get away with it.”

Those are just a few of the cases CBS 2 Investigators found by merging Chicago Board of Election voter histories with the death master file from the Social Security Administration.

In all, the analysis showed 119 dead people have voted a total of 229 times in Chicago in the last decade.

Jim Allen, a city election board spokesman, says a majority of those dead voters were most likely clerical errors, involving family members with the same names and addresses. “This is not the bad old days,” Allen says. “There are just a few instances here where a father came in for a son, or a neighbor was given the wrong ballot application and signed it.”

But in some cases, there was no clear explanation. Take Tadeusz Ciesla. Records show he voted in 2010. But his nephew Marek Ciesla says that’s impossible because he died in 1998. “That’s a fraud,” he says.

Informed of the findings, Don Rose, a political consultant, says: “Some of these could be accidental or just some individual who says, ‘I really like such and such a candidate so I’m going to take advantage of this — vote until they stop me.’”

Allen says about 60,000 dead voters have been purged from the rolls over the last decade — but 2 Investigators found numerous examples of that not happening.

Earl Smith says he reported the 1997 death of his father, also named Earl Smith. But records indicate his father has voted twice after he died.

Allen says the board identifies and removes most dead voters. “Any time you can clean up the rolls it helps reduce and eliminate the prospect of any kind of mistake or fraud,” Allen says.

Robert Sallee says he tried to do that by reporting his mother’s death multiple times. “They’re just not taking her off the rolls,” he says.

These stats are Chicago alone. Imagine the numbers of dead-voters when you consider the thousands of large cities in America?

For years after his untimely death, Houdini’s wife and other friends hoped for some sign from him in the afterlife. Too bad they didn’t think to look in the voting booth.

Purge the roles and show ID to vote.

Never mind the dead voters. The big deal is the non-voters who are voted by crooked poll workers. They just look to see who didn’t vote, and vote for them.

Yup, but that will "discriminate" against the dead-voters being able to cast their ballots.

How obvious, and I never even considered that. :<(

DOES EVERY ballot in the pres election have a paper trail to show who the person REALLY voted for?

Or are the machines gods now.

You should have seen the BS survey i took that was basically a 10 minute defense of our voting system.

Multiple people review the votes, internet has no part in the voting process, both sides check the voting machines, blah blah.

If they sent out 5 million of those and paid everyone 5 or 10 bucks, (i forget which one I got) that’s possibly 5 million spent for this “survey”!!!!

who has that kind of money!!!

had another “survey” that played the Trump video on the bus. They paid 10 bucks if they could scan my facial reaction.

I laughed the whole time :) What a bunch of nonsense.

Yep. Require EVERYONE to show up IN PERSON once every 10 years to re-register. Also, required a national database of death certificates that is automatically cross referenced against the voter rolls.

Paper ballots.
Purple fingers.
Voter ID.
Put a little ⩍ next to the names of those registered voters with death certificates, and detain and put a 72 hour psychiatric hold anyone claiming to be a dead person...

I could be wrong, but this is the first time I ever recall any buzz about folks actually investigating voter fraud around election time from the low information crowd. Of course it is easy to find if one actually looks.

It reminds me a bit of Trump’s talk about all the problems coming over the boarder. Folks were shocked, outraged, it was an affront to everyone. Then folks started to look and whamo...the facts are right in front of them and the tune changes.

We can’t just win next week.....we have to follow through with real change in how we are doing things

I think this is a big source of fraud, and there's no way to combat it without a monitor in every single precinct.

The tip-off is precincts that have 90%+ (or even 100%+) participation. It's practically impossible.

As long as the poll worker has access to a list of registered voters, they can manipulate the system. We have the technology to block access except to a registered voter, but don't have the will to impose it.

This article is a reminder to me why the Dems are so against IDs to vote.

Back during the 2014 midterm election, I went to my normal polling place. (I live in rural West Virginia so they are still a little behind the times and pull a paper voter registration card when you vote.) I noticed that they pulled my father card instead of mine, after correcting them I asked why they still had my father on the voting rolls considering he passed away in 2000. Of course the old volunteer poll worker lady didn't have a clue and said I'd need to talk to somebody at the county courthouse. So the next day I had off work I took my fathers death certificate down to the courthouse and told them my dad had been dead for 14 years and was still registered to vote. They made of copy of the death certificate and said they would remove him, out of curiosity I asked them if they could check and make sure nobody had voted under his name, they pulled the records and said the last election he voted in was the 2000 general (which would have been correct as he passed away in late November of 2000). Then I asked them if there isn't some procedure for them removing voters that die. They said that they are suppose to get an annual report of deaths from Vital Statistics and cross reference that to the voter rolls, but some years they don't get one at all and other years they do but just don't have the manpower to clean the voter rolls.

So yeah, it's pretty much a mess....

Taking a copy of the Missus’ COD to the polls on November 8. Even though she’d likely have voted r, going to make sure there isn’t a ballot with her name on it.
