Since this is a UK betting story, I thought I’d mention that last year Leicester won the English Premiere League (soccer) title at 5000:1 odds, and some took that bet.

Betting a small amount at extremely high odds is much like buying a lottery ticket - terrific, though unlikely, payout for minimal risk. If you win, you win big; if you lose, you’re only out a few bucks. Betting large amounts with lousy odds is a whole ‘nother story.
