Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Monday that President-elect Donald Trump would likely focus much of his initial foreign-policy strategy on destroying Islamic State, setting aside more vexing problems in the Middle East and elsewhere. The comments came shortly after The Wall Street Journal reported that Mr. Giuliani is one of the leading candidates to become Mr. Trumps first secretary of state.
During an appearance Monday evening at The Wall Street Journal CEO Council gathering, Mr. Giuliani suggested several times that he would be interested in the post, going into great detail about how he views foreign policy and how his views overlap with Mr. Trumps.
ISIS, short-term I believe, is the greatest danger and not because ISIS is in Iraq and in Syria, but because ISIS did something al Qaeda never didISIS was able to spread itself around the world, he said.

Go, Giuliani!
Sounds like Rudy SOS, Sessions SOD, Palin SOI
Trump and Putin talked via phone today. With one call Trump has put our relations with Russia at the best level ever. And he’s not even in office yet.
Defeating ISIS is easy. Just tell the Saudis and Gulf States we are not playing their game any longer.
No more wahhabist bull shit, no more making war for Sunnis, no more Madrassas in Virgina . Go ahead and sell your treasuries, you terrorists, we don’t care.
Winning
Exactly. ISIS/Al Qaeda support emanates from Saudi Barbaria & Gutter (aka Qatar).
hopefully Trump will undo in one month all the damage 0bama inflicted in his nightmarish 8 years in office.
Trump and Rudy REALLY, REALLY want to get even with ISIS for what they did to New York, and they will be using the State Department to that end, making it the velvet glove that contains the DoD iron fist, as opposed to this peace-making, nation-building, patty-cake crap State has been used for during the last 30 years.
This whole article also confirms what I’ve been predicting at FR and elsewhere for over a week now, namely:
“Europe doesn’t get it (yet). Trump’s going to withdraw from international conflicts (except ISIS) and U.S. world policing duties left over from WWII and the cold war, and focus almost exclusively on domestic policy, fixing the many things broken about our country and let the rest of the world take care of itself for a change.
Trump will reach some kind of agreement with Putin, and then bow out, and let Europe fend for themselves against the Russians. If the Germans and other European countries want to hollow themselves out with unlimited immigration of Muslim peoples so backwards that flush toilets are a big deal and then are unable to deal with Putin because of such poor decision making, then so be it.
The Koreans and Japanese will be given the go ahead to build atomic bombs and build up their military and then THEY can deal with China militarily, not us.
Trump will still guard the oil in the Middle East but make the oil countries pay for the guarding.
For the first time, the world will be able to take care of itself without the backing of U.S. industrial might, because the parts of the world that matter now have their own industrial might. They’ll also have to learn good decision-making as well, without having Uncle Sam to bail them out should they make fatal mistakes.
This new foreign policy will be one of the major reasons Trump will be able to succeed in fixing our nation, where the Bushes, Clintons, and Obamas have failed.”
Great post and analysis. I hope this happens

Isn’t it ironic that a GOP incoming President thaws our relationship with Russia and democrats are going nuts accusing Trump of having Russian ties? What a difference a few decades make! The rats went from being the party of peace and love to reigniting the cold war.
Back on topic - Rudy will be great wherever they put him, but I really hoped it would be DOJ. The DOJ career attorneys at main Justice appear to have made a really hard turn left and someone needs to fix it. Justice should not be left or right - it should be right down the middle based on the law and blind to politics. I think Rudy would be the best person for that job.
FWIW - have not seen this posted, but what about Gowdy for SCOTUS?
I like it, but I don’t think he could get confirmation in the Senate.
I agree with the America First position and am happy to see it. We should stay out of foreign affairs unless our national security is threatened. This this, I don’t think we can just completely abandon Europe to self-immolation, I think it’s of vital importance that we promote and support the freedom movements there. The fact that Bannon is interested in working with Le Pen points towards this.
While it’s easy to say ‘let them wallow in their own misery’ because of their disastrous decisions (and I agree to an extent), if we sit idly by we’ll be facing down a number of former nuclear powered allies as hostile adversaries in a generation or two. Demographics is destiny and if nothing is done to preserve nation state identity in Europe, it could very well turn into a nuclear-powered Islamic continental power, one we may have to fight with...again.
Neocons like John Bolton would like to play along with those nations, they are thoroughly ‘old school’.
Good post.
Trump/Putin defeat Soros, move on to ISIS.
Rudy is a great choice!
That would be fantastic. They send the message "we won". They're loyal, competent choices. My only question is how does Trump "clean the swamp" in the US Senate without Sessions there?

In a way, Trump and Putin are two sides of one coin. I believe that if they combine forces they CAN defeat ISIS.
That Said....
My 3 Small Simple Question....
1. What Do You Want?
2. How Do You Get It?
3. And Then What Happens?
Way Too Often We (including I) Don't Ask The 3rd Question.
