Almost all oil is traded using the US Dollar. If we stop purchasing oil from them, they would trade in their own currency, and the Dollar value would drop world wide. The Printing presses would stop, as there would be a glut of Dollars.
For the first time in nearly 40 years, the saudis will have less influence over the White House. They cannot afford this loss at this point in time.

Or wold energy transactions will no longer be pegged to the US Dollar. This would cause the value of the dollar to plummet and inflation of the US Dollar would skyrocket.
