Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive, has cultivated relationships with China’s leaders, including President Xi Jinping. He has paid multiple visits to the country to meet its top internet executives. He has made an effort to learn Mandarin.
Inside Facebook, the work to enter China runs far deeper.
The social network has quietly developed software to suppress posts from appearing in people’s news feeds in specific geographic areas, according to three current and former Facebook employees, who asked for anonymity because the tool is confidential. The feature was created to help Facebook get into China, a market where the social network has been blocked, these people said. Mr. Zuckerberg has supported and defended the effort, the people added.

For the life of me, I do not understand the NEED some people have to use these services.
I don’t need to broadcast to the world what I ate for breakfast, how firm my last dump was, or send pictures of it to the world.
Strikes me as insecure personalities needing affirmation from other insecure personalities.

The basic plot was that rogue insiders at Circles were developing fake accounts and bots to act like friends, and sway opinions. They were doing so to get into the Chinese market, and would use these bots to weed out dissidents, and sway opinions to whatever the government wanted.
The protagonist had discovered the nefarious bot programs, but didn't know what they were actually for.
As it progresses, it turns out the Chinese and the American Businessman were working together to also use these accounts to sway the election in the Republican's favor. Apparently the Chinese official and the Businessman had been friends in the past.
So, once again, the liberals are projecting onto others what they actually want to do, or are doing.
The book was poorly written, with too many trite memes of the day, but the plot itself was closer to reality than many might realize.
Whoops. Forgot to mention that the American Businessman was a major developer/builder, and that he was the Republican running for President...
I realize that falsely labeling someone is wrong. At this point i would have to properly label Zuckerberg a full out American traitor.
He is really despicable.
