The original Gerber baby has turned 90.
The baby food maker said Ann Taylor Cook celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday.
Cook was about 4 months old in 1927 when her image was sketched in charcoal by family friend, Dorothy Hope Smith.
The drawing was submitted to Gerber a year later when Gerber put out a call for images to be used in its new baby food advertisements.

If that’s her in the pic, she looks very well for 90!
She still looks quite good, age considered.
A good endorsement for Gerber baby food laying the foundation for a long life.
I remembered a story I heard in my Marketing class, about how Gerber had problems selling their product in Africa. They used the same packaging as they did in the US, with the baby on the label. Later, they learned that in Africa companies routinely put pictures of the ingredients on the label, since many people cant read.
She’s STILL a cutie!!
90??? Looks like she’s, perhaps, mid sixties! Cutest baby picture ever.
Laz?
Lol. Great genes.
Well, it was “ baby food”. :-)
Imagine...after all the money “dumped there” for all the essentials ...and basic education is not present....gives new meaning to a dark hole...or moneypit. I am well aware the people in control kept the cash and let the peons stay submissive because of the blocking of knowledge....”a mind is a terrible thing to waste?”...wasn’t that the slogan to get donations on top of our government blocks of cash?
This one looks a bit more recent:
She’s still really attractive for a 90 year old woman.
For years I had heard that Humphrey Bogart was the model for the Gerber Baby, but that turned out to be false. His mother did draw his picture, and had it printed on a different brand of baby food. This lady here was given a one time cash payment of $5000. back in 1951.
She has received no royalties.
When I was very very young. I worked at Kent County. Michigan Republican headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Gerry Ford was our congressman and Dan Gerber, prez of Gerber baby food, was the titular head of Republican state committee. I had the special talent of forging Dan Gerber’s signature perfectly. Signed hundreds, maybe thousands of letters from Dan requesting donations.
Had I been a Demonrat, I would have cleaned out his bank account.
+1
A blessing to age so gracefully!
Good for her!
I am a Gerber baby. My father, a chemist, was a career employee of Gerber Products Company between 1948 and 1984; an expert on cereal grains, he was credited with inventing Gerber Rice Cereal. We moved to Fremont, Michigan, the Baby Food Capital of the World, in 1963; I am a proud graduate of Fremont High School (the Packers), Class of 1972. Gerber Products Company awarded me a partial scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame.
At the time that the Gerber family engineered the sale of the company to Sandoz (later known as Novartis), the laboratory where my father worked was the largest privately funded infant nutrition research institute in the world. At the time of his retirement, my dad was the #2 man in the Gerber research hierarchy. Some people talk pro life, my father lived it (he died in 2007; God rest his soul).
Although Gerber is now a Nestle brand, I’ll always be proud of my association with Gerber Baby Foods.
This is the sweetest thing I have read all day!
