It is November, and the air reverberates with cries for unity and bipartisanship. The Republicans must have won an election. Sentiments such as "I won" and "You ran the bus into the ditch, so now sit in the back seat and be quiet" are more associated with Democratic triumphs.
Advising the new president on his treatment of Democrats, the Wall Street Journal's editors counsel "charity for all." They draw upon Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address, delivered just before the end of the Civil War. Is that really applicable to Mr. Trump's dealings with his political adversaries? Lincoln spoke after the South had suffered the slaughter of its manhood, the destruction or besiegement of its cities, and utter defeat, with formal surrender a month away. Lincoln's admonition looked to a time after victory.
Winning an election is not in and of itself victory not if the objective is to change the nation's course and to preserve its constitution. The election placed the necessary means of success in the Republicans' hands the presidency and legislative majorities in both house of Congress but it remains for them to use those means. Victory on D-Day was won not merely by sending an armada into the English Channel.
The South capitulated at the end of the Civil War. Have the Democrats capitulated? Do they show any signs of moderating their hatred of the president-elect or of conservatives like Senator Sessions, whose nomination to the office of attorney general they vow to derail? Do we discern any lessening in their contempt for the Constitution itself, as demands to abolish the Electoral College or even to corrupt its imminent vote abound?

The RINOS in the senate are going to be the real problem
Hope Trump can find a way to get them to see the light
That’s easy. Show the same unity and bipartisanship that Obama showed us in 2009. WE WON!! To semi quote Obama.
Why. They lost after a litany of lies, and unsuccessful voter fraud
Agreed,,
Trump has a Vision,
He Wanted This Bad!
Drain the Swamp,
Build the Wall and
Make America Great Again.
This is Not a message of Compromise.
It is not unlike Ann Coulter,
Invade their Countries,
Kill their Leaders and
Convert them to Christianity!
Trump needs a scorched earth policy.
Lincoln tried being nice to the democrats and he got killed for his efforts.
It's worth repeating for new folks that this is exactly like Muslims begging for a cease-fire.
Why? Evil is not deserving of magnaminity.
A pox on the Wall Street Journal editors (Rupert’s stooges) too. I don’t think we will forget all that we learned about so many of the so-called conservatives at the WSJ, Fox News, the Weekly Standard, National Review, Salem Radio Network, etc. during this election. I for one will never listen to, watch or read 99% of them ever again.
Give 'em the Ceausescu Protocol. All of them.
“I think it only fair that the same courtesy and consideration be afforded to whats left of the Democrats in Congress...”....
While I agree with you, President Trump, in his effort to heal the racisim wounds in our country will, more than likely avoid following oudmbo’s stupidity and loathsome, burning desire to ruin this country.
During the shutdown, even though I was deemed "essential personnel" and was not placed on furlough, I was allowed to go on a vacation planned far in advance. During that vacation, I went to Kentucky and stayed near a national park. The park was closed, but we were still able to enter it and hike. We just didn't have access to restrooms or concessions because everything was closed.
And some still lurk here under that same delusion that Trump was mean to the holy, principled, sainted, ineligible Cruz.
We won an important battle on Nov. 8th. Not the war. Our goal at this point should be the destruction and replacement of the rat party. Not working together, not reaching across the aisle, destruction and replacement.
We have a two party system. We’re pretty much stuck with that structure. But we’re not stuck with collaborating with the rats. For example, administrative appointments. Most states require that a mix of party appointments be made. GOP governors should never, ever appoint a rat to administrative office unless state law specifically requires it. Pick a third party person instead.
The Democrats and the GOPe are welcome to come along but they will have to ride in the back.
I don’t recall the media and libdem borg calling for homobama and his crew to be magnanimous to the GOP and country in 2008.
These libhole demonicrats should eat their bs.
The DemocRATs only want the Bob Michel Republicans around.
They've got one in Mitch
I was wondering how many replies it would take for the correct process to be mentioned. Thank you.
