When I heard this morning that Fidel Castro had died, I honestly felt numb. He has been dead to me since the day I left Cuba for America, and over 40 years later, my feelings have not changed. As I worked to start my new life here and raise my beautiful family, I would sometimes hear snippets from grossly misinformed people around the world about the good that came from Fidels so-called Cuban revolution, and Id be reminded to count my blessings that I had escaped his horrors.
Venezuelas Hugo Chavez was one of those jaded individuals who lauded Fidels work. Under his tenure, he tried to implement some of Fidels Cuban socialist ideals in Venezuelan society, which has left the country in economic ruin. Venezuelans are starving, simple needs like toilet paper are considered a luxury, medicine is impossible to find and the country is experiencing a mass exodus. All of this can be considered a legacy of Fidel Castro.
As Im reading about the millions around the world celebrating Fidels death, my thoughts are with the thousands who died before him, often at the hands of his own doing. I think of the brave Cubans who fought for democracy, those who drowned at sea while pursuing liberty and freedom, and those who did reach American shores, but died before ever being able to return to their homeland. And yet, in a move signaling that Cuba still has a long way to go in establishing domestic bliss, the government of Fidel's brother, Raul Castro has announced that the country will undergo nine days of mourning in preparation for the ruthless dictator's funeral.

Working here is S.E. Florida I’ve dealt with multitudes of early arrival Cubans.
Those who came when Castro came to power.
Old now, they were honorable hard working people with great pride.
Those who came during Mariolito, not so much. They were the dregs and they grew up under socialism. NO motive to accomplish.
Bump
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones.
And Fidel is not even going to leave bones, as he is going to be cremated. Not that much of anything that could be called good in the moral sense was ever done by him or his regime.
The connection between Castro and the assassination of Kennedy is one of the great untold stories of its time.
Marielito is a sample of what the Cuba at that time looked like... not all serious criminals of course — and a capricious system had little motive to be merciful in the face of minor crimes — but some were.
God understands what souls are where and under what circumstances — in fact in His sovereignty, He arranges for it, understanding how they will react under various possible circumstances.
Pride can be a good or bad thing, depending on what it’s centered on. A country that’s proud of the arm of flesh — what man can do unaided — can easily be coaxed into following an especially bad example of it.
Unless the spirit of God lifts, the mountain of socialism can not be abolished in Cuba. And the spirit will only lift when the people are ready to respond unto God with gratitude.
I agree. Too lengthy and polarizing a subject to revisit here, though, imo.
Please FReepmail me if you'd like to explore details. No harm if you'd rather not. :)
For decades, Castro removed religion from the Cuban society.
Made it a crime.
Face plant.
Herself had a better crew who could catch Herself before a similar full measurement on the pavement, as happened on the September 11th observation in NYC.
Is anybody going to believe that?
Excellent editing job, whoever took the guy who shoved fidel out of the recording.
