A modern day Augustus Caeser wants to emasculate the Senate for the sake of making the trains run on time.

Austria has a big election Sunday as well. Hollande is not running again in France.

We may be witnessing the undoing of the EU.

I hope so.

I wonder if Obama has people in Italy assisting Renzi. The admin has messed with a number of foreign elections.

The Government of Italy has been a Cluster F for my entire adult life. From 1960 till today the Prime Ministers spot has switched hands 33 times.

I hadn’t followed this much. The comments below the article are fairly brilliant and informative.

Now I see they are trolling out the “fake news” canard in the NYT as a reason NO is pulling ahead. Seems the globalists see press censorship as their final hope. I know Obama has been on it recently.

Referendum, un “sì” dalla Casa Bianca

Obama supports Renzi’s reforms.

The only person the Zero can get elected is the Zero. His proxy battles have yielded zilch in non socialist countries.

He doesn't seem to be doing too hot in socialist countries either.

The Italian government was much more efficient under Mussolini.

This is (part of) the tension. The last time the Italians concentrated the power of government, they ended up on the wrong side of a world war.

Having no tradition of the common law, Europeans do not do balanced power well. Better to have feeble government than efficient despotism.

A legend in his own mind is simply all he has left. If he goes into the media business I’m sure he will manage it with the acumen he did the country.

With 315 senators the senate is likely on the verge of dysfunctional

I don’t know the function of the lower house, but the senate seems t make it unnecessary
