The unemployment rate fell in large part because the labor force participation rate fell...

Do I need more coffee, or does this make absolutely no sense?

Oh? That's the reported unemployment rate.

What's the real rate?

Here's the latest report:

Yeah, that unemployment rate going down to 4.6 means we know that absolutely every single word and number from the BLS is a lie, and we know that becuae the BLS says the participation rate's up and we know that everything the BLS says is true.

Now that we've settled that, let's think about whether the fact that everyone's left the work force is going to force an increase in wages....

Labor markets may indeed be too tight in one sense. A full boat transfer payment package is worth about $69,000 in wages. Almost no one on a full boat package is worth that in labor markets. Hence, no one is looking to invest labor in a lower dollar yield than a no labor input receives. If we create an economic environment that demands labor, but below the transfer payment level, there will only be immigration to fulfill that demand. We need to return to the welfare reform benefit levels, work requirements and expected behaviors.

According to the BLS A9 table, we picked up 9,000 full time jobs, 118,000 part time jobs, and 61,000 multiple job holders. According to the non seasonly adjusted numbers, we LOST 628,000 full time jobs at a time when we should be gaining them.

The labor market isn't too tight until my employer doubles what I'm making in a desperate attempt to keep me from leaving, and employers are fighting with knives over who gets to hire me next. Until then, as far as I'm concerned, the employment picture is soft.

I say expand the economy so hard that employees are worth their weight in gold, like they were in the late 1990's. I want the labor demand curve on my side, not the employers. THAT's how you get wage increases and a better life.

At 4.6 % the economyis at full employment. Those not working are between jobs. At least that was the word back during the Bush administration. There are always `4.7% of the work force in a fluid situayion.

Obama has gone too far for reality in his jiggering of the numbers

This sort of cr@p is why I never subscribed to/read IBD.

The inconvenient fact that 95+ million people are out of the labor force isn’t even acknowledged.

I gave up on believing anything IBD has to say about the economy long ago! IBD is a mouthpiece for the lying Obama administration (as are many of the MSM outlets).

Why don’t the report the U6 unemployment rate? Why don’t they report that most of the added jobs are part time or temporary for the holiday season? Why don’t they report that about 95 million people have dropped out of the labor market?

The jobless rate is not at any historic low. The official and highly tweaked Unemployment Rate is.

The Obama administration wants someone to think the 4.9% jobless rateto be like or less than Pres. George W’s real
numbers.
