Editorial: Pipeline protesters win Pyrrhic victory
Grand Forks Herald ^ | December 5, 2016 | By Tom Dennis

Posted on 12/05/2016 2:19:59 PM PST by Brad from Tennessee

There's a reason why Republicans soon will control not only the presidency, but also the Senate, the House, 33 governorships and both chambers in 32 states.

The reason can be found in the Dakota Access Pipeline case. With its elevation of identity politics above all else, its twisting of facts to accuse others of racism, its fanatic claim of being above the law and its wild exaggerations of environmental risk, the protest helps explain why so few Americans are willing to give the Left power.

The protesters won an important battle on Sunday, when their efforts convinced the Obama administration to block the pipeline. But it's likely to be a Pyrrhic victory, not only because the Trump administration might reverse it, but also because it deepens the public's distrust of modern liberals' governance.

Consider:

▇ For months, protesters have accused Bismarck residents of racism and used the charge to justify the anti-pipeline cause. That hurt: Racism is an explosive charge, and if, in fact, the pipeline had been rerouted because it was NSFW—Not Safe for Whites, in comedian Trevor Noah's words—the project would have been discredited.

Not one syllable of such evidence surfaced. Just the opposite: Clearly, the Army Corps' routing avoided cities, not "whites," and put the pipeline through the rural Midwest—which is mostly populated by whites. . .

Thanks for posting that, Brad.

I used to work for the Herald and my brother sent me the editorial this morning but I don't know how to post.

Cheers!

Convinced the Obama Administration to do something it was certainly not loath to do.

One might think that these Indians would find the potential for economic commerce for THEM to be improved with the Pipeline?

What I’ve come to realize is that welfare living has become so good and easy, that the idea of actually having a nice job, making a buck, having some self worth is puny in comparison to “Free Stuff”. Gibbsmedat wins with these folks!

I know some of these AIM-types. They’ve got no long-term goals. They’re just nihilists. Jill Stein is a nihilist too; I believe it’s a mistake to think she has some rational goal.

The protesters need to eschew their prolific use of petro Propane to keep themselves from freezing. Buncha hypocrites.

Driving through the “rez” I would point out to my kids all the junk cars and crap around almost every single residence. And told them to remember this when they hear that “The Native Americans are the stewards of Mother Earth”.

I bet more stuff leaks into the ground from the junk cars than the pipeline ever will. On average I would say probably 4 to 6 junk cars laying around at each place. Multiply by whatever. Disclaimer - there were a few real nice places with fresh paint, clean green yards and flower gardens, but they were VERY rare.

With all those junker cars, I had to wonder if there wasn’t some government program that allocated money every so often so they could by a new car.

Most protesters are not Indians but hippies—many who arrived with little money or winter essentials—from all over the country. Now the Standing Rock community is having to take care of them. Currently it's 26 degrees there. Tonight it will be 9 and tomorrow 13.

Look up the “Voluntary Human Extinction Movement”, and you’ll come to an understanding about how these hippies think and why they’re dangerous.

The Democrats in the far-left have way overplayed the charge of racism. Nobody gives a crap anymore when someone cries “racism” and now public opinion typically shifts against the person who makes the claim.

Calling someone a racist is about as effective as calling them witches, nobody believes it anymore or they don’t care.

I believe they are building their own refinery not far from there.

The Indian tribes have ALWAYS been “untidy,” and it is not just a recent “phemomenon.” Hell, I’ll just say it: They have historically been filthy.

Read some accounts of people who interacted with them over the centuries, from early Spaniards and French explorers, to Europeans who settled the east coast and whose descendants moved westward; they were almost unanimous in their descriptions of the filthy conditions of the Indian camps. The Indians NEVER washed any cooking or eating utensils; they’d just stack them in a pile when they were done with them and when they wanted one they’d just grab one and use it again. Also, there was a reason the tribes always moved their camps UPSTREAM, and it wasn’t for a better view. There is also the myth that Indians only killed what they ate and that they used the entire kill. While certainly not as prolific in their destruction of the buffalo herds as the whites, they were no slouches themselves in that regard, and many, many buffalo were killed for their tongues, and the rest just of the carcass, meat, hide, and all, just left on the prairie to rot.

“...always moved their camps UPSTREAM...”

I worked for a guy that worked out of his home. His basement was huge, with two bedrooms and two large common areas.

“Yeah - so I started my home office in that room, then moved it to the second bedroom, then that area, and now finally to the main room. My decorating style is ‘Native American’”. (Each room was filled with crap from each era.)
