"strenuous objections from Democrats who argued the plan could disenfranchise properly registered voters."

Yeah, they only have two years before the next election for the Senate and House, and four years until the next Presidential election. If they start trying to obtain a proper ID now, they just might make it.

Per the article, there are 4 days left in the current legislative session; hope they get it through the Senate & governors signature.

Imagine if strict requirements for proof of identification using Real ID compliant photo ID cards are mandatory to vote in an election. The resulting cut in voter fraud would be so huge that supposedly "blue" states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania could go solidly "red" again.

Unfortunately, governments, whether state or federal are going to have to give away free ids and b/c’s as stated in this law. That’s the only way around the liberal jurists striking these laws down. That is alwasys the excuse, that it “disenfranchises” low income voters, which is a bunch of bull but the argument used. Whatever the cost to do this is necessary to eliminate the fraud and start having non-fraudulent elections in the inmer cities. Trump needs to championship n a natinal voter id at the Fed level, which i would generally be opposed to but is now very much needed after the rampant Dem fraud finally exposed.

People who are too irresponsible to get a stupid ID really shouldn’t be voting anyway.

If you figure the cost...roughly $25 a person...and make the ID period of effect eight years...then it’s roughly $3 a year. It’s worth all the pain and suffering to pay that through each state. My guess is that if you made it optional (pay or free)...that more than fifty percent would pay the $25.

NAILED IT, Especially if they are the special sort that can fill out reams of paperwork for their gubermint benefits, but cannot go to the DMV for an ID card....

It would help to cut voter fraud to have strict voter ID laws, but that in itself would not be enough.

The fraudulent ballots uncovered in Wayne County, Michigan during the recount were not tied to the identity of the voters. They were tied to fraudulent ballot counting. When there is a package certified to contain 360 ballots and it only contains 60, this has nothing to do with who cast the votes.

In Illinois I once worked as an election judge. I was shocked to find that many judges who were presented as Republican judges were actually Democrats. The voters would see someone sitting as a Republican judge and think that the integrity of the voting process is protected. Instead, the room is filled with only Democrats, and when there are no voters in the room the judges can do whatever they want without accountability.

I suspect the same thing happened in Michigan. Otherwise, nobody would have had the opportunity to lie about the number of ballots stored in each package.

Voter ID laws, no matter how tight, simply would not impact this type of fraud.

I half-suspect this is why a Clinton-appointed judge killed Stein’s recount on a second go-around.

Detroit’s ugly voting practices may have been revealed to the world and MI populace ready to back more radical changes to election law

They can’t even get benefits without an ID either. This is such a farce by the democrats and these liberal judges who are fully supporting voter fraud. Forget the lame excuses they’re making. This has always been about voter fraud which always benefits democrats.

Trump needs to put an end to all this open voting crap we’re seeing. It’s out of control and has to stop or we will lose our Republic.

They’re the best argument for voter ID.

Everyone gets a social security card and number at birth, so there is a structure for identification in place that might be tweaked. Maybe you get a new ss card when you are 18 years old, perhaps with a magnetic strip and a voter credit that is activated for each Federal election. Like a gift credit on a credit card, once it is used, it is gone until the next election. Would need some thinking, but surely if we can make driverless cars and satellites and go to the moon, we should be able to devise a system of some sort that is almost fool-proof?

States can provide a state ID and states are much closer to the individuals claiming they want to vote.

What American citizen has no photo ID in this age? Even the elderly and infirm have paths to their birth certificates or citizenship papers.

Why is this hard?

Well,.... except for Cruz... who “didn’t know” being born in Canada made him automatically.... Canadian, like mommy.
