I can see an advantage to a "refusal register". There are cases where people who haven't signed up for organ donations are at the mercy of their loved ones to make the decision for them.

I'm a terrible person. Not about to sign up for organ donation....don't want the medical community looking at me in terms of usable body parts.

Me too! I don’t worry about my kids, but I do have concerns about the “medical community.” Every time I go to my PCP, they ask me if I have a “healthcare directive!” I politely refuse, but the first time anyone asks if I own a gun, I’m looking for another doctor.

The problem is that presumption that you are a donor unless you are on the list. That colors the entire way the medical world will look at you.
Even if you are on the no donor list, your level of care will never rise above the new baseline that the medical field will use. It sets an expectation.

I’m a registered organ donor. I don’t want to see someone die on my account.

Its a blessing to save a life and live on through them.

Anyway, I’m gonna have a medic alert tag saying I’m worth 173 million dollars and that I can pay for any and all heroic efforts they make to save me.

When I wake up in recovery, I can deal with it. It won’t be the first time I betrayed someone!

There are people who are more deserving of your organs than you are. They should have the right to take them if they need them.

You certainly could be looked at differently if a wealthy or politically powerful needed some “parts”.....

Hey Doc!

Declare this one brain dead quick.

He’s a perfect tissue match for the Billionaire over in the private wing.

The problem is if you are circling the drain. They already have you typed and know the money to be made by harvesting you, and their heroic story they get to be part of.
Balance that against you just getting the n-th degree of their best effort.
So it’s little ol’ you,,,, against a harvest team, a transplant team, a jet crew, donor family facilitators, etc. And they all want your parts. They aren’t exactly hoping you’ll die, but they aren’t exactly rooting for you to pull through either.

That’s a pretty lonely position.

They can make that choice in a minute. Saving you with every ounce of effort will fall second to harvesting you.

If you want to donate, make it clear to your relatives that you want to, and then don’t sign the donor card. They can part you out when you are well and truly dead. But the doctors should never have a clue you might be a donor.

Oh, and they don’t like to wait till you’re dead. Their dream come true is for you to be on life support so they get better organs. They declare you brain dead and *bada bing! You’re a donor.

That’s how I felt til my daughter needed a liver. I fought tooth and nail against transplant. Sought out every alternative we could find but it was a successful operation and I thank the dear Lord every day someone donated their sons organs....twice now. She is 34 , first transplant at 11 then the second at 28.

Opt out.

Once the state takes this step, you are losing control of your own life and body. The only rational thing to do is opt out, even if you have no objection to organ donation.

They can harvest organs from the sheep. Opt out.
