WikiLeaks threatens to sue CNN over commentator calling Assange 'pedophile'
The Hill ^ | January 4, 2017 | By Joe Uchill

WikiLeaks is threatening CNN with a defamation lawsuit after a commentator called Julian Assange a “pedophile who lives in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.”

Former CIA counterterrorism official Phil Mudd used the term to describe Assange on CNN's "New Day" on Wednesday morning while discussing the WikiLeaks founder's interview with Fox News a night earlier.

“We have issued instructions to sue CNN for defamation ... Unless within 48h they air a one-hour expose of the plot,” WikiLeaks tweeted Wednesday

"The plot" refers to allegations that Assange had molested an eight-year-old girl in the Bahamas, promoted by a company running a dating website that unsuccessfully approached Assange about a celebrity endorsement deal.

By Wednesday afternoon, CNN had removed clips of Mudd's comments from the show's Twitter account and tweeted a correction.

"An analyst on our air earlier today asserted that Julian Assange was a pedophile, and regrets saying it," the network wrote. "In fact, CNN has no evidence to support that assertion. We regret the error. . ."

“We regret the error...”

SUPERIMPOSED CAPTION: ‘POLITICIANS - AN APOLOGY’

(The camera pans across a landscape. Roller caption starts to come up, superimposed. The words are quite large and easily readable, but well spaced so that the roller will seem to go on for quite some time. Voice over reads)

Voice Over (Eric Idle): and CAPTION: ‘WE WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE FOR THE WAY IN WHICH POLITICIANS ARE REPRESENTED IN THIS PROGRAMME. IT WAS NEVER OUR INTENTION TO IMPLY THAT POLITICIANS ARE WEAK-KNEED, POLITICAL TIME-SERVERS WHO ARE CONCERNED MORE WITH THEIR PERSONAL VENDETTAS AND PRIVATE POWER STRUGGLES THAN THE PROBLEMS OF GOVERNMENT, NOR TO SUGGEST AT ANY POINT THAT THEY SACRIFICE THEIR CREDIBILITY BY DENYING FREE DEBATE ON VITAL MATTERS IN THE MISTAKEN IMPRESSION THAT PARTY UNITY COMES BEFORE THE WELL-BEING OF THE PEOPLE THEY SUPPOSEDLY REPRESENT NOR TO IMPLY AT ANY STAGE THAT THEY ARE SQUABBLING LITTLE TOADIES WITHOUT AN OUNCE OF CONCERN FOR THE VITAL SOCIAL PROBLEMS OF TODAY. NOR INDEED DO WE INTEND THAT VIEWERS SHOULD CONSIDER THEM AS CRABBY ULCEROUS LITTLE SELF-SEEKING VERMIN WITH FURRY LEGS AND AN EXCESSIVE ADDICTION TO ALCOHOL AND CERTAIN EXPLICIT SEXUAL PRACTICES WHICH SOME PEOPLE MIGHT FIND OFFENSIVE. WE ARE SORRY IF THIS IMPRESSION HAS COME ACROSS.

Assange is many things, several of them reprehensible. However, I have never heard of him accused of pedophilia. Rape, yes, by the Swedish government, but not pedophilia.

He gets support around here because is on a crusade against secrecy by the powers that be. Currently, hsi target is our opponents Obama, Clinton and the Democrat Party.

However, neither Mr. Assange, nor his Wikileaks partners t care as to legitimacy of that secrecy, nor does he care about the impact of his crusade. They publishes information without regard to the consequences.

We should remember he is a snake who bites at any convenient target. For now, he is, at most, a tactical ally against a common foe. At some point he will release information that will undermine an interest of this nation that FReepers unequivocally support. Don’t be surprised when he does.

You're not wrong about that. I still hope he sues CNN.

You’re right about that too. Thank God this election proved that there are enough of us to render the MSM irrelevant.
