Maybe because they don't believe it?
Drop the charade. Build the wall. If we pay for it then at least it's done.
Total agreement.
I’ll even donate. :>)
What charade?
It depends how one defines “pay for”. I can see a scenario where taxing wire transfers to Mexico that originate in the US, either a percentage of the transfer or a flat fee, could “pay” for the wall. Of course one could argue that in that case it’s not the Mexican government paying but Mexican citizens here.
That’s just one example though. I’m not even sure something like that could be done, at least not easily. I don’t know if such a fee could be imposed via executive order in other words. Seems to me Congress has to pass a law initiating it. And that could be difficult. Not to mention I don’t know how fair that would be to those here legally, sending money down to Mexico. And what about those sending money to other Latin American countries; would their wire transfers be so taxed or only those to Mexico? Again, a fairness issue seems present there.
Personally I am doubtful the wall will be built at all. I realize a law has already been passed authorizing its construction. However that only authorizes a fraction of the money needed to build a real wall. So there ultimately seems to me there is a legislative battle looming no matter how one cuts it.
We shall see though. Again personally I’ll be happy if the wall is built. I never believed it would/will happen so I certainly never believed in the “Mexico will pay for it” promise. That was campaign balderdash. Anyone should know that.
I will be impressed if he gets the wall built. And a real one too not some flimsy fence. If he gets a real one built that will already be gravy. Getting extra funds to pay for it, from any source not our tax dollars; well that will be gravy on top of gravy for me.
