Banning guns wouldnt have stopped his jihad, he could just as easily driven his car through a crowd. Right next to baggage claim at most airports are multiple car rental agencies. Probably easier to pick one up for jihadi use at the end of a flight than to check the gun at the beginning of the flight.

The Lord protects us with His angels who understand 100 faster than us slow reasoners. Some people things they are fast reasoners and do not agree to be under the Lord and His angels. That’s where we get trouble: lack of agreeing to be under the Lord, pride, and Gnostic feeling of “I have special knowledge.” Oh well, the Lord still can run circles around the proud.
