Global investors are fleeing Mexico's financial markets, sending the peso to record lows on mounting concerns that Donald Trump's trade policy could end the country's privileged status among developing countries.

The peso tumbled 2% on Tuesday to another all-time low against the dollar, frustrating Mexican central-bank efforts to slow the currency's decline. Bank officials said Tuesday that they spent $2 billion last week to prop up the peso, which has weakened nearly 16% against the dollar since the U.S. election.

Probably one of the smartest things my Spanish/Mestizo ancestors did was leave Mexico 200+ years ago for what is now SW Texas and NM-the further away from the center of Spanish government, the better-apparently the place was a mess even then...

They were perhaps even smarter when they took up arms against the repressive government & fought for Texas independence - which they won.

You people may want to tell Vinnie Fox to knock off calling PE Trump a “mo....f.....”. The boy needs to clean up his act.

True. Better get the wall up fast. Trump needs some kind of Radio Free Mexico program to teach them how to fix their country. No excuse for Mexico not to be a successful country.

The smart folks have been telling us for years that the influx of illegal aliens from Mexico was the foundation for our economic stability. If they return home, it should have the same positive impact on the Mexican economy. I am certainly willing to make the sacrifice.

The war for Texas independence wasn’t the 1st rodeo for the ancestors-they joined the fight for Mexican independence from Spain-it came to be in 1821, but they weren’t happy when the new government came after even more taxes from poor livestock ranchers-so it was back to war again-a couple of ancestors died in skirmishes in SW Texas.

Considering what has happened to Mexico in the few weeks BEFORE the next President even took office, imagine the damage Nafta and other bad deals have been doing daily to the USA for over thirty years.

Mexico is largely two income layers far apart. The rich people assumed they would always be able to parasite off of the US and would never have to actually build an economy of their own and build a middle class work force.

Now would be a good time to start.

Maybe if they pay for the border wall and show Trump respect, he’ll let them take a couple of gulps of air before he starts applying pressure again.

Mexico WILL pay for that wall. Trump will make them an offer they can’t refuse.

The SOS and the next American ambassador to Mexico are going to be critical. It is in our national interest to steer them towards real reform and success. Otherwise, downward spiral and civil war....and then the Russians or Chinese come in.

I remember going to Mexico in 1986 and it was 800 pesos to the dollar.

Fast forward to present day and even at an exchange rate of 22 to 1 Mexico is still crap hole and exporting it’s undesirables to the USA. Which I believe demonstrates that no matter what we do, no matter how prosperous Mexico becomes, it’s too corrupt to change anything. Thus, we need to build the wall and be done with it.

If we were to designate 10 miles on both sides of the border, all along its length, to be an artillery training range, then we could practice Corps level massed artillery fire and Time on Target fires to return the scumbags to a distance of at least a day’s walk back to the border.
