Obama's Early Writing on Chicago was Eerily Prophetic
The Chicago Reader ^ | January 9, 2017 | Ben Joravsky

I re-read Barack Obama's autobiography. I revisited the book to help me think through Obama's relationship with Chicago, and what his departure means for our since he's not coming back here. I found a lot of reminders that as much as Chicago loves to claim Obama as its own, he was never really ours.

Obama settled in Chicago by happenstance. He wanted to be a community organizer and he couldn't find a job anywhere else. He arrived in 1985 at the age of 24. He'd already lived in New York, California, Hawaii, and Indonesia. The son of a man from Kenya and a mother from Kansas was very much trying to figure out who he was, where he belonged, and what he wanted to do.

And so he turned himself into a decent replica of a real Chicagoan for the decade or so he was here. He settled in Hyde Park. Joined Jeremiah Wright's church. Made the right liberal connections. Successfully ran for the Illinois state senate. He professed a loyalty to our sports teams. He even became one of those insufferable Sox fans who dislike the Cubs, though he probably cared for one team about as much as the other—which is not very much at all.

Politically speaking, he was the quintessential Chicago liberal. He pushed hard for the right causes, like more school funding, but he knew enough to avoid direct confrontations with Mayor Richard M. Daley.

Was Obama's Chicago conversion genuine? By my read, it was a little calculated. It seems to me Obama was just passing through, looking to get out almost as he got in. In 2000, he unsuccessfully ran against Bobby Rush for congress. In 2004, he got out for good, getting elected to the U.S. Senate.

Did he use us? A little.

And now the democrats howl at, “Russian interference” and the media and the public spoon it up as if they are protecting us from communism when they are the communists.

Did he commit adultery, too?

From Wiki:

On June 22, 2004, after receiving a report from the referee, Judge Schnider released the files that were deemed consistent with the interests of Ryan’s young child. In those files, Jeri Ryan alleged that Jack Ryan had wanted her to perform sexual acts with him in public in sex clubs in New York City, New Orleans, and Paris, although no sex occurred. Jeri Ryan described one as “a bizarre club with cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from the ceiling.”

Jack Ryan’s sin of adultery?

The Jack Ryan scandal was that he proposed kinky sex to his wife and she rejected the idea. How is that adultery?

FReepers need to clean up their own fake news. I knew Milt Cohen, Quentin Young, Harold Washington, Don Rose. I also knew members of various Communist groups (pro-USSR, anti-USSR-pro-Che Guevara, pro-Mao, etc). I’d like to know where MadMax got his information.

Bill Ayers was always in the back of Alinsky Organizers minds, not due to any CPUSA connection, but due to the strange relationship Bill had with his father, the king of the business establishment’s use of Corporate donations to steer Alinsky groups in the desired pro-Dem Machine direction.

The reality is that most people on the left operated totally independent of the CPUSA. Of prominence, the lone exception is Luis Gutierrez who was close to the PSP which was loyal to the KGB.

Fake History does not make a good foundation for learning history so we don’t repeat it.

The hit on Jack Ryan was the second time that Obama operatives rifled sealed divorce files during the same election cycle. In the Democratic primary for US Senate, Obama’s millionaire opponent, Blair Hull, was faulted for domestic battery allegations contained in his closed divorce court file (Hull’s ex-wife alleged spousal abuse and claimed that her husband kicked in the leg in their marital bed during an argument). Obama won the primary. During the general election, salacious details from Ryan’s divorce were used to torpedo his campaign and after he quit the race Alan Keyes was transported to Illinois to lose the general election.

David Canter has achieved immortality for mounting a failing judicial candidacy in which his nominating petitions were tainted with a pervasive pattern of fraud which were sufficient to deny him a place on the ballot. It set a judicial precedent.

My information, besides personal contacts with Young and possibly Cohen at a major CPUSA legal front conference (I also sat in a room with Bill Kunstler, Dennis Cunningham, Anne and Carl Braden, Richard (Dick) Criley, Harvey O’Connor, etc, all but Cunningham and Kunstler being sworn oath id. members of the CPUSA).

See the 1965 Chicago hearings for Cohen’s second id as a Party member. Quentin Young showed up in the HCUA hearings on the 1968 riots at the Democratic National Convention, among other citations. Criley has been identified in many hearings since literally the 1950’s, if not earlier.
Rose self-identified as a “leftist” going back as far as the 1948 Wallace for President campaign and I think he said that he was involved in the CPUSA political front, the American Labor Party.

Harold Washington is an interesting person. I do not know if he was a CPUSA member or not. I’m leaning against it but he was constantly referred to in the leftist media (Daily World, Guardian, Militant, etc). as a “leftist”, not a Social or Christian Democrat, “progressive” wasn’t in use back them except in Party writings.

However, he accepted Party people help in his political career, esp. David Simon Canter who was exposed as a Soviet asset as early as 1957 in congressional hearings.

Never said that Ayers had a direct CPUSA connection. More likely a Cuban connection through either going to Cuba with the Venceremos Brigades (a CPUSA aided, if not created Castro support operation) or with people who had gone (Kathy Boudin) and his wife Bernadine Dohrn. The passenger manifests for the first 5 VN trips to Cuba from about 1969-71 are found in the Congressional Record and the House Internal Security Committee report on the VB, published in 1972 in their “Theory and Practice of Communism” series of hearings.

Dohrn: p. 7824: Bernadine Rae Dohrn, on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list, and Julie Nichamin, leader of the Weatherman faction, SDS, were also founders of the Venceremos Brigade after they traveled to Cuba. A letter by Nichamin was seized from Dohrn’s apartment which laid out SDS ties to Jesus Jimenez Escobar, “a secretary to the Castro mission to the UN”. He was later expelled for subversive activities.

I saw Ayers at least once, July 1969, at the New Mobe founding conference where he, Dohrn and a whole conga-line of SDS pyschopaths and bombers announced that they would perform violence at the Oct./Nov. 1969 anti-Vietnam demonstrations in DC and San Francisco despite what the Communists (CPUSA/SWP) wanted in terms of how the protests were to be handled.

I may also have seen him in DC at the Mark Rudd talk at American Un. in 1969, along with Kathy Wilkerson and Jack Davis (SDS) regional leaders - DC).

I’d love to know how you meet the people you named and your knowledge of their ideological affiliations. Just a straight telling of your story sounds very interesting to this old street-pounding journalist.

Oh, I was once a member of SDS, for about one meeting before we realized that the college chapter we were members of were either batcrap crazy or cowards (the crazy ones got their asses kicked at American Un. but Davis and another Jack helped take over Georgetown Un and GWU because of spineless administrators and do-nothing fraternities.

At least at AU the fraternities threw SDS out of the president’s office. Don’t recall whether they bothered to open the windows and doors before they cleaned house. Not important. It was the thought that counted.

#22. Re “a bizarre club with cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from the ceiling”.

No wonder the Kremlin hacked (allegedly) the DNC. They wanted pictures, esp. of Pelosi in leather and Harry Reid in chains with a mouth-ball.

On second thought, that image is going to make me hurl my bologna sandwich record distances.

And Debbie Wasserman Schultz in leather is absolutely disgusting and should be outlawed by western civilization.

But this “club” might explain Sheila Lee Jackson’s cowgirl outfits. Cowgirls don’t just ride on saddled horses and carry whip horses to speed them on, do they Sheila?

Party On Dems, er Dudes!

The biggest mystery to me is how Canter received a law license? Who approved him at the Character & Fitness Committee based upon his Communist background?

Canter v. Cook County Officers Electoral Board, 170 Ill.
App.3d 364, 523 N.E.2d 1299 (1st Dist. 1988).

A court decision in which a candidate was disqualified for engaging in a pattern of fraud.

It is quite possible he got his law degree much earlier than his 1950’s Communist Party exposure by a congressional committee, HCUA. It was his acting as an unregistered Soviet propaganda distributing agent that got him in trouble. He refused to register and closed down his bookstore in Chicago. His partner was another Soviet asset, CPUSA veterans leader Leroy Wolins. Met Wolins in 1969. He was a real gogetter. Reportedly the man who suggested that the 6 anti-Vietnam GIs who met together start Vietnam Veterans Against the War in Vietnam. In either Hunt or Nicosia’s book on VVAW/Kerry.
