What a tool. What would he know about negotiations or diplomacy? The discussions with Mexico just started, for Pete’s sake.

What are they going to negotiate. I think Trump was clear there will be a wall. The negotiation will be in how Mexico pays for it. The “professionals” in DC think negotiating means to give up your core principles and accept the other side.

So how do you feel?

Is Trump a great negotiator or a bad one like this fake news writer is saying?

This dude obviously doesn’t know that it ain’t over ‘til it’s over. Good night nurse! The only thing that happened this week was Trump’s opening salvo, just to sight in his guns. And Nieto dove for cover. Trump will smoke him out, though.

It looked like a great negotiating tactic to me.

Mexico will be at the NAFTA table considerably weakened and their US corporate supporters silent.

“Make Mexico pay for the wall” is itself a negotiation tactic. It is designed to wring further concessions from Mexico.

Ryan Lizza is just another frothing left-wing propagandist. He understands nothing about what Trump is up to. Lizza merely channels the whiny propaganda from Mexican officials. Trump has changed the game.

The Mexican leadership is a bowl of jello right now.

They aren’t going to dictate terms any longer.

There will be no open border. They will take their criminals back. We’re no longer going to be their human waste bin.

Start acting like a good neighbor, and we’ll treat you like one.

When negotiations start in person, Mexico will not be expecting a fantastic outcome. They will walk in with realistic expectations, and Trump will already have won.

The media is made up of young children who want the outcome now. “I want it now! Waaaaaa!” Under Trump they will learn to wait as they are educated in the art of the deal.

The 20% tariff is a scare tactic to make what he’s going to do seem not as bad - put a 5% tax on remittances to Mexico.

Thursday's series of incidents with Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto were evidence to the contrary, The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza writes.

It's literally not even 24 hours later.

In other news Ryan Lizza is still mad that he couldn't park on his new concrete driveway immediately after they poured.

His car is still at the dealer having concrete cleaned out of the drive train, brake calipers and engine compartment.

Obviously, the writer of this story isn’t a trained negotiator. He or she (not sure what a Jeva is) should probably find something that they know about to use as a subject for its writing.

Back in the days when I was selling cars, we would do a walk around of the customer's trade-in, and pointed out each defect, even small dings. The more we criticized it, the more the customer was willing to pay for the new car. Sure, it's uncomfortable, and it makes the customer feel bad, but it helps get a better deal.

It's like Trump is pointing out to Mexico how weak of a position they hold. Just be glad he's on our side! The last guy seemed to give everything away!

I read somewhere that Nieto was in trouble with his constituency for looking soft.

The person postulated that President Trump might have set up this scenario to allow the Mexican leader to stand up to the US for domestic political reasons. If so, he’s now in Trump’s debt.

That would be an interesting development.
