With everything going on in Richmond and Washington, you may have missed this, but it’s important: Republicans in the House of Delegates just passed a bill to make it more difficult to vote in the Commonwealth.
The GOP voted along party lines to require proof of citizenship in order to vote -- something that courts have said is unlawful at the federal level. Not only that, but they argued for the bill using the same lies about “voter fraud” that Donald Trump has been using.
But we know the truth: Voter fraud is a myth, and Republican laws that claim to combat it really have a different, disturbing goal: Suppressing the votes of anyone they don’t think will agree with them.
Tell the VA GOP: Virginia voters won’t fall for your voter suppression ruse.
This is exactly how Republicans have won elections in other states. Where they can’t win on the merits of their arguments, they win by kicking people off the voting rolls. In other words, by cheating.
Democratic governor Terry McAuliffe has worked tirelessly to make sure every citizen of our Commonwealth gets their voice heard at the ballot box -- we can’t let Republicans take all that away. Tell the GOP that we see right through their voter suppression ruse.

Proof of citizenship is no problem for actual citizens. Republicans “suppressing the votes of anyone they don’t think will agree with them” is code for barring foreigners from voting in our elections.

Ok, I will accept this Democrat’s argument that proof of citizenship is unlawful at the federal level.
Make proof of citizenship a requirement at the state level and see how many non-citizens get booted from the rolls.
