Gov. Robert Bentley is leaning toward Alabama’s attorney general Luther Strange to replace U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, who is expected to be confirmed Wednesday as Donald Trump’s Attorney General.

POLITICO reports that three Birmingham Republican insiders have confirmed Bentley’s choice of Strange, but warned it’s not a formal selection, and the governor could change his mind at any time.

No idea, but “Big Luther” sounds like a man you do not mess with, and I like that.

Off topic: Large explosion reported at Paris subway station moments ago. Already attributed to electrical malfunction. Casualties, don’t know anything else.

He’s called “Big Luther” because he’s really tall (at least 6’ 8”).

I don’t like this appointment, but not because of Luther’s political leanings, which are pretty conservative. It’s because Bentley is on the cusp of being investigated for unauthorized gifts and undue influence over governmental affairs by his “alleged” mistress. It’s been said that Strange is about to launch an investigation of Bentley. So to nip the investigation in the bud, Bentley appoints Big Luther to the vacant Senate seat. Crooked business.

He is AG in Alabama and was Lt Governor. Big Luther is called that because he is 6’9”. It is likely he is being selected because he is currently investigating our RINO governor and Bentley probably wants him out of Dodge. He looked and sounded good on the commercials. Other than that I don’t know that much about him. I suspect he would make a reasonably good conservative in the Senate but we’ll see.

Luther Strange has never been Lt Governor. You’re confusing him with “Little Jim” Folsom, Jr.

I’m listening to the Senate pile-on (Sessions’ nomination) right now. The senator currently blathering sounds a little bit inebriated.

Bentley is doing this to stop the investigation.

Personally do not know him, but Roger Schuler accused him of having an affair with his young campaign manager, Jessica Medeiros Garrison, and Roger ended up losing everything.

Jessica ended up in a $400,000 in Birmingham’s most exclusive suburb after only somehow paying $30,000.

Big Luther has the power to make Bentley’s own potentially criminal activities involving his affair with his much younger campaign staffer go away, hence Bentley perhaps wanting to send Big Luther to DC.

I’d prefer someone younger than Strange’s age of 63. For example, when SC Senator DeMint retired in 2013, Gov. Haley appointed Tim Scott, who was about 48. JMO.

So does Bentley get to appoint his own personal AG now? Sheesh....

Siegleman 2.0?

Big Luther would make a decent, conservative senator. He’s tops on Bentley’s list to quash the investigation of Bentley’s affair with a rat staffer that has turned him into rat-lite. He could do better, but he could also do MUCH worse - could even appoint a rat because he’s not exactly on the best of terms with the repub leadership in the state.
