Well, if they weren't swastikas, they were close enough. The public works people should be more sensitive to accidental symbolism, /S.

I remember a few years ago some major manufacturer had a decorative squiggle in their advertising which was considered derogatory (or maybe blasphemous) in the Arab world, and they apologized and changed it. Was it Coke? Memory unreliable here...

Harry Khachatrian ‏@Harry1T6 16h16 hours ago .@SarahKSilverman just saw this mysterious Nazi sign on the street. There's even a "15MPH" under it -- must be some secret Nazi code.

Because a stylized version of the word 'air' on one of their shoes that accidentally resembled the word 'Allah' in Arabic, Nike was forced to withdraw 38,000 pairs of shoes worldwide, issue an apology and ended up paying for a playground at an Islamic elementary school in the U.S.

A graphic on the label of Burger King ice cream cones too. It was pretty much anything for a couple of months.

I recall pictures of women in Thailand and Vietnam wearing dresses with a series of swastikas printed on them down the front or around the lower edge of the dress and so on back in the fifties.

It's a symbol with a meaning to Asians that has nothing to do with what fascism or Nazis and in Asia they don't give a damn what the Nazis say it was.
