What they don't report is that while that State of the City address was being delivered five synagogues and two gay bath houses were being torched.

Times have certainly changed the Great Northwest, like a slow boiling frog. In the 60’s it was an industrial town and a Navy and a commercial fishing town. The taverns, yes I said taverns, played honky-tonk country, fishing was a sport not a recreational activity and the cascades offered adventure and the wilds. It was a great place to be a kid.

We moved away in ‘66. I think the Beatles screwed things up and that busy backwater hasn’t been the same ever since.

I stand corrected. I get so excited in my worship of communist thugs I got the two mixed up. I even have a picture of me under that statue. It is an interesting history of how it got there and I highly suggest reading the story. There was a short blurb on a Netflix show (Odd Places or somesuch) and then I read up on it. And of course, only an American English teacher could find a Lenin statue a “work of art.”
