As the Trump administration expands its deportation policy, Chicago Public Schools told its principals that they should not let any agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement into schools without a criminal warrant.
“To be very clear, CPS does not provide assistance to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the enforcement of federal civil immigration law,” chief education officer Janice Jackson wrote.
The district also distributed palm cards in English and Spanish from the National Immigrant Justice Center containing such legal advice as not opening doors to immigration officials.
President Donald Trump campaigned on building a wall to keep out undocumented immigrants. The Board of Education proclaimed Chicago a “welcoming district” where students didn’t have to disclose their immigration status in order to attend classes.
But immigrants rights advocates pressured the board to protect immigrant students and families. Some schools meanwhile have held workshops on their own for teachers, students and parents to learn their legal rights if questioned by authorities.
CPS won’t say how many students may be undocumented. But more than 46 percent of CPS students identify as Hispanic and another 17 percent are considered English language learners.
Last week on A Day Without Immigrants, more than 50,000 of CPS’ 381,000 students were absent — with attendance of Hispanic students down significantly. Nearly a quarter of all Hispanic students didn’t go to school, CPS said. And more than 100 schools saw attendance rates fall below 80 percent of what they were a year earlier.
“We know that some families are concerned about sending their children to school at this time, but we firmly believe that the safest and most beneficial place for your children is a classroom alongside their fellow students where they can work toward a bright future,” Jackson wrote in a separate letter to parents.

It would be a shame if Chicago Schools lost all federal funds.

Of the thousands of people shot and killed in Chicago, how many of the murderers were illegal immigrants. If they had been deported, the victim they murdered would still be alive today.
Ergo; how many people will be murdered in Chicago THIS YEAR because the City of Chicago actively hindered their murder’s deportation?
That’s a question I would love to ask at the next Chicago School Board meeting.
This is independent of the sanctuary city policy. There has been a distressing trend of late where educational institutions, nation wide, see themselves above the law.
Impeding a Federal investigation.
.... Well ... Believe it or not .... I'm pretty sure a well planned Immigration and Customs Enforcement raid would actually include an aforementioned Criminal Warrant. Heck ... It's an integral part of the protocol when planning any raid.
That’s ok. Illinois will net raise taxes. And life will go on.
Uh. I wonder if they realize that police don’t need a warrant to enter a public school. So whoever is saying this is putting principals in a position of being arrested for obstruction of justice.
What do they mean by “Criminal warrant” vs just “warrant”?
How many of these long term goals of the Communist agenda (The Naked Communist - as entered in the Congressional Record Aug. 1963) are now satisfied and / or furthered by such action?
•Capture one or both of the political parties in the U.S.

•Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
•Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current communist propaganda. Get control of the teachers associations.
(Bob: Socialist education for a couple generations reduces the need for “re-education” aka “The Final Solution”)
•Gain control of all student newspapers.
•Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.
•Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures.
•Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them censorship and a violation of free speech and free press.
•Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures and TV.
•Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as normal, natural and healthy.
•Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with social religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a religious crutch.
•Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principles of separation of church and state.
•Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
•Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the grounds that it was only a minor part in the big picture.
•Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the communist apparatus.
•Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

•Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
•Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents.
•Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American traditions; that students and special interest groups should rise up and use united force to solve economic, political and social problems.

A non-story.
Public school students are minors. Unless they have committed a crime (in which case the police WILL have a warrant), minors are low on the priority list.
The left is working overtime to make illegal immigration all the about children. So they can cry crocodile tears on TV about the poor children. “Stop Trump’s immigration orders; do it for the children.”
Keep your focus. Right now, it’s about deporting the criminal element.
Public schools are not private property.
Let me guess, they don’t track ‘documentation’ for illegals like they do w/ Citizens (IE: address vs. attending location, vaccination papers, etc.)...
I will admit, the optics would not be good ‘rounding up the children’, but, were it me, I’d be at the ready with “# of illegals saving $X/yr for the taxpayers and a return to the Rule of Law” break-out.
P-L-E-A-S-E, goose-step the ones whom signed this order and the principal(s) blocking as well. Why not charge ‘em the same as those in Oregon w/ some stupid ‘preventing a federal official to complete their job’. Hell, there’s a million other BS charges....add ‘em ALL and give ‘em a tally of the years in the pen. That’ll stop this BS from the get-go.
This is so much nonsense. ICE agents are not entering schools without warrants. ICE is not deporting children without their parents. Media paranoia.
