“As usual, Pat doesn’t really get it. The US citizens of CA have been the victims of a subtle, insidious invasion, sponsored and encouraged by the traitorous DemonCrap party, to separate CA from the US, a separation the will leave the US militarily weakened with our wet coast possessed by a hostile, marxist power. That’s been the purpose of the illegal alien invasion of CA all along. By now there are two or there million illegals voting illegally in that state.

They and the DemonCraps have stolen the state from its real citizens and now threaten secession, a horrible move that will fundamentally threaten the security of all of us.”

You are exactly right. And the usually astute Pat Buchanan misses the mark here. We cannot ever lose one of our ocean shore lines to the liberal enemy. It would be the equivalent of Israel pulling out of the Gaza Strip. It has brought them nothing but grief and turmoil. Creating a liberal haven, an enemy country having ownership of most of our Pacific Ocean shoreline, now that would be a disaster.

We would then have to win a country of CA back by war as versus changing the internal dynamics of CA by getting rid of illegal immigrants, withholding federal funding for bad behavior, and giving the whole country a booming economy that will lift all boats. But no secession by CA, ever.

I think that Pat understands perfectly what you are writing about. He has been a Conservative on immigration policy for as long as one can remember. And, of course, consider his statement, above:

A new federalism -- a devolution of power and resources away from Washington and back to states, cities, towns and citizens, to let them resolve their problems their own way and according to their own principles -- may be the price of retention of the American Union.

What he has suggested as the price for saving the American Union is--as Pat of course knows--the price, or the major part of the price, for forming the American Union to begin with. It was always the Constitutional intent; hence the absence in the Constitution of any Federal role for meddling in the social values of any community.

Now I recognize your plea on behalf of the rooted, loyal Americans in California--and the importance of the State, geographically & economically to her sister States. This raises questions not easily resolved--certainly not without a major change in the suffrage--even after we deal with those illegally voting now.

It isn’t often a state goes from liberal to conservative. I prefer to divide the nation into two nations and take our chances. I believe the left wants a real war. They certainly act like it.

Now is no time to relax for Conservatives, conceding how blue California is, Colorado looks to have largely flipped to blue and there are minority-majority states that conceivably could swing in the future. This is why building a beachhead and likewise flipping blues and purples, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc. could be crucial in the future.

The only solution to this is a full Federal investigation of the CA electoral system that will remove the illegals from the voting rolls and stop the myriad other forms of DemonCrap vote fraud. Pat’s suggestion would simply reward the thieves and traitors for their crimes

If that could be done, good, such demographic changes are what some of his books are largely about. But flight from California according to some has helped turn states like Colorado, Oregon and Washington blue OR more blue. Certainly, one can make that case for Colorado, Californication.

You will be very unhappy with the results if your opinion here actually happened, which it won’t. Remember, there are huge swaths, mostly in the lower half of the state, that are conservatives. Mostly in the more rural areas. You don’t want to throw out the baby with the ocean bathwater.

Economics, squeezing the CA liberals financially, destroying them financially, can cause an internal overthrow of the CA gov’t when the CA people get fed up enough, and that will happen. It happened in our country just this last election. The people got fed up with the Libs ruining our country, and voted them out.

I guess I’m more optimistic than you about CA, but just remember what happened in Israel where a potential Pali state will be a constant threat to Israel. And external pressures keep Israel from invading Gaza and destroying it. Same thing would happen here, and we will have an enemy state attached at the hip to the rest of our country, like a giant canker sore.

You don’t see liberals as the enemy? I sure do. That was Israel’s mistake - thinking they could get along with the enemy. What did it get them?

Sorry but California cannot secede and any attempts to do so will be crushed. It is basically only two city-states that wand to secede, the L.A. and San Francisco, and they can be isolated and starved out very easily. The American military could bring them to their knees in weeks as they go hungry and extremely thirsty.

The endgame is that we need to teach the left to fear our voices more than they love their own. LOL

Plus if California secedes, they will IMMEDIATELY form some type of treaty or bond with Russia or China, guaranteed. Can you imagine having a broke, insane , communist “failed state” (People’s Republik of Kalifornia) that has a mutual treaty with a super power communist nation existing right on our western border, with access to our Naval and AF bases, etc.

While in my dreams letting California go sounds like the easy solution, (culturally and politically) and would be delightful to just not have to deal with the commies there, I’m afraid national security wise it would be disastrous.

Plus we would be abandoning the conservatives that still live in California that are completely oppressed by the coastal commies (see Oroville Dam fiasco multiplied by 100)

“Is Secession a Solution to Cultural War?” the Q asked by Pat.

No. As long as we have the Electoral College, conservatives can control the Federal System, hence the courts. Keep moving issues back to the States to decide. Eventually this will cause such a mess for California that their latent conservative feelings will be aroused and normality will resumed.

If Kalifornia was somehow successful in seceding from the union, it would be a disaster. It would not be long before they would come crawling back for US federal money to fix their dams, infrastructure, etc. They are already are tens of billions is the hole with no way to pay it off. Maybe as a separate nation, they could print their own money and pay their debts off with worthless currency.

And what happens when the first tough guy dictator makes a play to take over Kalifornia like Saddam did with Kuwait? Are they going to have their own standing military to defend themselves? Would they sever all ties to show their dislike of Trump? If some country tried to invade and take them over, would they scream bloody murder to the US government to come defend them?

This succession bull is exactly that, bull. The list of the unintended consequences of this liberal idea, would be unending. Taxes would have to raised even higher to make up for the federal aid the state now gets from the federal government and even more people would move out and "immigrate" to the US. Would they be denied visas? Or will California build a wall to keep the population from leaving, like the Berlin Wall?

So many questions with no answers. This has not been well thought out logistically. It's all about their "feelings". But then again, it is the liberals who think this will solve their dislike of Trump. Their ideas have NEVER worked out as planned.

“Yet, given the divisions among us, deeper and wider than ever, it is an open question as to how, and how long, we will endure as one people.”

Are we still one people?

It is possible California can be made conservative, or at least less liberal if the following steps are followed:

* Require positive voter ID for any elections involving Federal offices.
* Aggressively enforce expulsion of illegal aliens.
* Cutting off Federal funds of any sort to any city, county, or state that refuses to cooperate with Federal authorities. Not just funds to law enforcement, but everything going directly to state or local agencies.
* Federal investigation of voter fraud and prosecution of any local or state officials who are involved in the process.

Reducing voter fraud by expelling illegals and cleaning up the voter rolls would break Democrat power in the Blue states. Ohio and Florida would become solidly red, and Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania would become red-leaning. Minnesota, New Hampshire, Maine, Virginia, and Colorado would move to purple, and maybe even New Jersey.

If California is successful in leaving the Union, I predict that the former Golden State will be annexed by Mexico within a year. Also, a separated California would lead to a very ugly struggle between the coastal commies and the interior Americans.

If Carolina can’t succeed neither can California.
