Trump’s State of the Union speech is going to be wild

In advance of President Trump’s first State of the Union speech, random busybodies are urging him to tone it down. One adviser from the bleachers suggests he be “humble and inclusive.”

Sweet, but I’m betting humble pie is not on the president’s menu. On the contrary, Tuesday night in the Capitol is likely to be a shock-and-awe blowout of pure Trumpism.

The idea that Trump must go mild has been a staple of the punditocracy since he announced his candidacy. That it still holds such a prominent place in his second month in the Oval Office reveals what slow learners media liberals are.

Although completely wrong about the mind-set of voters from start to finish, they remain steadfast in their certainty that Trump needs a personality transplant to satisfy the public. At least that’s what they say.

What they mean is that they won’t accept him as legitimate until he plays by their rules. They see themselves as Washington’s gatekeepers, entitled to deference from newcomers, with the added requirement that Republican presidents approach on bended knee. They use the hysterical reaction of their fellow Democrats as a bludgeon to demand that Trump conform to the progressive catechism. Milk and cookies to the distressed are recommended.

He doesn't even need to give a speech. The Constitution requires that the President report to Congress on the State of the Union from time to time. Until the advent of radio and television, presidents simply sent letters to Congress.

Neither does it have to be a single address per year. A president could make two or more per year, with each devoted to a single area of concern. A SOTU for the economy, one for defense etc.

And there is no reason why Trump couldn't go over the heads of the media and post his SOTU remarks on the White House website.

Trump needs to be ready for:

* Planted protesters

* Dem rep to shout out something about his taxes, Russia ties, or he stole the election

* Entire dem or many dems to simply walk out

There is a constitutional requirement for the president to give the Congress information on the “State of the Union” but doesn’t state a place or time or even how often. “From time to time” is the actual language I believe. I suppose the requirement could be fulfilled by simply sending them a letter but then that wouldn’t be very entertaining.

Sending a letter to Congress was indeed how presidents did it before they realized how much more fun radio and television could be :-)
