Trump aide Conway draws ire for kneeling on White House sofa

Washington (AFP) - US President Donald Trump's senior adviser Kellyanne Conway has come under fire after a picture of her casually kneeling on a couch in the Oval Office was widely shared on social media.

In an image captured by an AFP photographer, Conway appears on the couch with her shoes on as Trump poses for a photo with leaders of historically black colleges and universities.

Wall Street Journal columnist Bret Stephens was among those taking aim at Conway, suggesting that aides under previous administrations would have elicited even greater outcry.

"If Rice or Jarrett had sat like this in Oval Office, conservatives would have screamed themselves hoarse for weeks. Now we own trashy," he wrote, referring to previous presidential aides.

Trump's predecessor Barack Obama repeatedly took flak for photos in which he appeared to be relaxing.

Critics also chastised Obama for unbuttoning the previous Oval Office dress code that called for a suit jacket and a tie.

The image of Conway trended widely on social media, with several Twitter users berating her for what they described as a lack of respect in the Oval Office.

LOL, like crossing your legs at the knees...granted, back in the day (up until probably around 1960) it was sophisticated for guys to do that, but...now, if I see a guy doing it, I do a double take-it generally looks feminine now. Guys can do it if they work at it (if they wanted to) but...er...ahem, anatomically speaking, it is a lot more, er...uncomfortable!

POS Obama used the Resolute desk as a foot rest and nothing was said.

Yep - and the sofa is just that - a sofa with no special historical value. I would imagine wearing high heels during a busy day might make her want to remove her shoes for a short respite before resuming...Says something good about Trump that his folks are comfortable enough for such "atrocities" in his presence.

I am so glad you posted that. No one seemed to have a problem with the Husseins using the White House as a ghetto party pad. Just another day and another faux outrage by the tolerant ones.

Women sit like that on couches. The other I see is the legs on the side. No big deal. Maybe not good timing. .

No comparison to the slob Obama and the desecration of WH furniture.

She can do whatever she wants.

Thanks to Kellyanne, the entire world knows that President Trump had an important meeting with a group of black leaders. Very happy group of black leaders, I might add.

Media narrative that Trump is "racist" and that blacks don't like him = destroyed.

If not for Kellyanne assuming a typical girly posture on the couch, how many people in American would even know about this meeting?

Saw the pic, have always wondered why women sit on their feet?

I don't wonder. I'm just glad that they do. It makes them look very seductive and attractive. Of course, one does need the figure for it.

Kellyanne’s pose contributes to the perception of this administration as being of the people.

It also has, yet again, outed the msm as idiots with microphones.

I could have been a set up shot

Yes. It is very strange way to sit for a lady in the White House. There is something trashy about this chick. I have nothing against her, but she has no class. Looks like she came from a trailer park.

I totally agree with you. I always look for the motive when something comes out that starts liberal heads exploding. ;)

And I take it you DO have class, despite nebulous criticism of a woman no doubt far more accomplished than you or any dependent of yours will ever be?

My current session on FR has been about two minutes. I have learned that President Trump likes ketchup on his steaks and Kelly Anne sits funny on the couch. Not a criticism of FR, just what passes for news these days.

What this tells me is that if the anti-Trump media is now focused on overdone steaks with ketchup and women advisers sitting on their feet, they are OFFICIALLY out of ammo.

Time to MAGA!

You may be right. I was trying to recall the person’s name and that may be it.
