( In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving- Donald Trump)
To: Kaslin
What got the brash Trump elected was a similar popular outrage that the self-described best and brightest of our time are has-beens, having enjoyed influence without real merit or visible achievement. I wish I said this. I have thought this for decades. It has always amazed me how narcissistic and self worshiping the Media/poltical elite is without any real world accomplishments. That why Obama was their god. He rose to the most powerful office in the world without accomplishing anything of any real world merit ever.

Like the rules of animal breeding, a culture which insulates itself from outside information and listens only to itself will become a parody within 30 years.

"Well, I must say this Trump chap is really not our sort. So brash. So vulgar. I hear he actually works for a living--like a common laborer. Disgusting."
This appears to be their way of thinking.

One problem for “Elites”. The men who made the fortunes that propelled themselves into the “elites” were mostly very smart and capable people. Their DESCENDANTS, however, are likely to be much more average in abilities.
All they really have going for them, are inherited wealth, plus a network of connections accumulated over decades and generations. They know that there are lots of people in the middle class who are MUCH smarter than they are, and the potential competition terrifies them.

e·lite: a select part of a group that is superior to the rest in terms of ability or qualities.
Well, I'm sure if you asked the self-proclaimed "elite" in America if they were elite they would, by definition, say of course they are. This in spite of a stunning lack of evidence to support their self-image.
I would concede that the self-anointed elite are in-fact "elite." However I'm sure we would disagree on just what exactly they merit the elite moniker for. I'm sure they believe it would be for their intellect and insight. While I believe it is for their ability to delude themselves into thinking anyone cares what they think or takes them seriously.

These "elites" go to DC to do good, and they end up doing very well for themselves. "Public Service" is the easiest path to becoming a multimillionaire, once you've made it into the club.
Oh, there's plenty of toll booths you have to pass (and pay) through, such as enrolling your kids at Sidwell Friends, and Ivy League schools.

The GI bill evened the playing field through education and access to data. The PC further leveled it with unfettered, massive access to data and ability to manipulate it.
This has led to the level of disparity between the Ivy League schools, state schools and private colleges to be slight. Historically the Ivy League schools were far superior. That is no longer the case as knowledge has been dispersed through the massive growth in universities.] o
As was said by one financial guru in the 90s: “The average American now makes financial decisions which, a short time ago, were made only by the super rich.”
The self styled elites are obsolete aristocratic fops.

The public no longer believes that privilege and influence should be predicated on titles, brands and buzz, rather than on demonstrable knowledge and proven character. The idea that brilliance can be manifested in trade skills or retail sales, or courage expressed by dealing with the hardship of factory work, or character found on an Indiana farm, is foreign to the Washington Beltway, Hollywood and Silicon Valley.
These "elite" people often have ridden on the coattails of their parents or other connections. They espouse the politically-correct views that are the current fad. But they have never learned to do true critical thinking because they are never personally challenged in their views, like conservatives and Christians are continually challenged. They think that they are smart simply because they have adopted their peers' approved views. Thomas Sowell called them "the anointed" and "the intellectuals." They condescendingly treat others with contempt because they think that they are better than us. Many of the American public have finally recognized them as the fools they truly are.
