Nevada pastor Michael Rowden sued Medi-Share over its refusal to pay for treatment of a heart condition. He eventually reached a settlement. “I was actually embarrassed to be associated with them,” he said.
I would recommend though that everyone look at catastrophic insurance.
Even many typical insurance from typical known providers have a cap, some at $1M for example. Whereas some really bad cancers and diseases can exceed that cap.
So make sure you are comfortable with those.
As for my family, we have also chosen to go with the Samaritan Ministries “Save to Share Option”. This help members with qualified needs that exceed $250,000. And the cost is an additional $46/month.
Yes, I already posted that article. From 2016.
Get brain cancer. Will you be covered?
Well...
Medi-Share must pay claim, stop collecting premiums
Be honest. There are a lot of people who have had problems.
Don’t pretend that you are guaranteed coverage if you get a huge $500k bill for brain cancer.
Honestly. I see more people having great success with it.
You have a personal problem with it. My guess. You don’t go to church.
I don’t go to Church. I already said that...
People need to go into this eyes wide open..
You pretending there haven’t been significant issues ..and many state issues because they didn’t pay claims..does a disservice to those that are thinking about using this as an alternative.
Oh and btw, you don’t have to go to Church to qualify for some of these programs.
There are many problems with all types of insurance. Every one of them.
Sharing ministeries have worked for many many people.
You’re right that there are no guarantees. Years ago our family participated in a healthcare sharing ministry out of Ohio. The guy running it was a crook. When we started, we were sending our monthly share to families who needed it. Then they had us send it to a central location in our state so that it “could be more easily distributed.” By the end we were sending our share directly to Ohio, where it, apparently, was being spent on prostitutes, airplanes and fast cars. We had a medical need that wasn’t paid until he was removed. But it was eventually paid (after we had written them off and paid the bill ourselves.)
However, we are now a part of Samaritan Ministries. A co-worker had nearly $250,000 of bills related to cancer: all paid. My family had $20,000 of bills: all paid. I’m impressed. I love sending a check to a person in need each month, and not to a insurance corporation.

I am convinced my town of 20,000 people could, given complete freedom, offer healthcare and insurance far better than Fed-mandated programs could.
Get Fed.gov completely out of the healthcare business. Leave Medicaid (and Medicare) up to the States entirely. Let people have REAL choice and let patients and doctors/providers negotiate directly.
Costs will drop dramatically, efficiency will skyrocket.
Thank you SO MUCH, lysie!
That was very thoughtful of you!
Can you share the name of this ministry? I belong to one in Ohio and hope it’s not the same.
You are welcome, MS.
