For Americans, the first couple, or even the second couple, for that matter, offers a lens through which we work out our own complex feelings about the institution of marriage and the role of women. In their first hundred days, President Trump and Vice President Pence have given us the ultimate contrast: a couple who dont live together and a couple who stay unusually perhaps unnervingly close. The Trump and Pence marriages represent the jumble sale that is Republican values in 2017, from the thrice-married big-city philanderer with a habit of viewing women as ornaments to the conservative evangelical Christian who seems to simultaneously respect women and fear their sexual wiles. Still, there may be more to learn by comparing the Trump and Pence marriages not with each other but with those of the Democrats who preceded them.

That is funny.
This was at Reagan’s funeral service.
With the depth of subject matter this person wrote, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re a FReeper.
She almost looks like that thing that schlorked salt in the old Star Trek...
It is, which is why the media is having problems with it. In their social circles, a solid marriage is like a unicorn --- in fact, they would probably believe in unicorns before they would believe that a solid marriage is possible.
The world is insane at this moment. Up is down, black is white, The Obama's marriage ,in which the two of them seemed to be incapable of even being in the same room together, is the marriage to emulate; and, a long-term marriage that one can see is based on love and respect, is a "soap opera".
I have posted before here that, occasionally, I have the late Charleton Heston in my brain screaming, "it's a mad house, a mad house".
Which tells me that the commie libs in the DNC’s “media” really need to try to get a life.

Compared to what's been going on in Washington for a long time, his not dining alone with women not his wife sounds like a wise policy and not something so strange, especially considering all the rules about sexual conduct today.
Others in Washington may have similar rules -- or should. They just don't tell interviewers about it.
For some voters, the Obamas example was a particularly satisfying rebuke to the ugly stereotype of dysfunctional black families. For others, as Hillbilly Elegy author J.D. Vance suggested, the Obamas success as spouses and parents cast an uncomfortable light on their constituents struggles in those roles.
But now -- separate vacations. What happens to the fan club if the Obamas' marriage breaks up.
The Clintons' making a phony show of their marriage -- dancing on the beach and such -- was pretty transparent.
What if the Obamas have been playing the same game -- just going through the expected motions of a political couple?
We'll find out soon enough.
Well I think I read somewhere a few years back that most journalist were the C and D students in college.
I had some fun at the author’s expense on Twitter. Don’t get mad, get even.
